Is the Rotary Extreme V-mount really the best setup?

For those of you that know, I wrecked the front end of my car (see avatar to left) and need a new radiator and intercooler. After extensive searching, I can't seem to get enough info on the V-mount setup, but it seems like a really nice unit.

I'm really not interested in a FMIC for many reasons, so I've narrowed it down to two options:

1. New radiator (koyo or fluidyne) and a large ASP intercooler (+-$2,000)

or

2. Regular V-mount (+-$2,300)

Seeing that the cost is not that much different between the two setups, my three main concerns are battery placement, A/C condenser placement, and Air filter placement (i currently have the Pettit intake). I really don't want to relocate the battery, so my only option with the V-mount is the mini battery, however, I think I can fit a normal sized battery with the ASP setup, right?

As far as the A/C condenser is concerned, with the ASP setup, I imagine it just goes in the stock location. With the V-Mount setup, is there a good amount of modification to mount the condenser? How does it look through the nose of the car?

Any opinions on the two setups would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ian

Bar None ?

Probhably Not. But for the $$$ and the wait, yes it is...

And Chuck is a lot closer/easier to talk to than someone in Japan, who hardly speaks english... and BTW a great guy to deal with....

As far as contacting the vendor goes, For the ASP setup, I plan on dealing with Jason at RX7Store.net and for the V-mount, I've been speaking with Sonny at Rotary Extreme. My main concern is funtionality over anything else.

I have the ASP/M2 Large and Koyo Setup and I like it alot. I also bought the SMIC used a few years ago and got a great deal. But after seeing the RE V-mount upclose and comparing intake temps, I'd recomment the V-mount kit. If money wasn't an issue I'd buy a V-mount and sell my current set up.

What is Chuck's policy when it comes to people who want his v-mount setup, but already have an upgraded radiator? Can it be eliminated from the setup, or is it all or nothing?

All i have to say is if you want a vmount you better contact RE asap because there closing down. hopefully theyll still be able to get you one, and yes i think the re vmount setup is the way to go hands down- in both cooling and performance...and it looks pretty cool under the hood.

chuck IS done with RE, however he might pass it on to Sonny so RE might still be around, i need to check the status on that.

^You can still pick up VMounts at RX7store.net but then again...RE being their supplier, once they sell last one, that's it.

I guess another major concern would be once a v-mount is installed, and RE leaves the market, what to do for future repairs, parts, service, etc?

I think I may be leaning more towards the ASP setup simply for future security's sake.

I guess my main question originally was which would provide me better performance?

Better performance for what? There is no real silver bullet to satify all means of driving. Depending on what you use the car for, there will be pros & cons for all setups.

You need to specify what you plan to do with your car to figure out what will work best.

Agreed. There is no "BEST". Only what suites your needs the most.

Chuck is still somewhat involved with the company, I just spoke with him yesterday. But I did hear he is going to hand it over from the threads on this board.

I am still here. I will be here for another month or so. After that, I am 99% sure that Sonny is going to take over the business operation. He has other business ideas but he is leaning toward taking over Rotary Extreme. In about a month, I have to go back to Taiwan to take over the family business. Since my father is going to retire and I am the only son in the family, it's my responsibility to take over even though it's not my best interest.

I am still working out the details with Sonny. There is no need to panic at this time. During this transitional period, we are concentrating on fulfilling all the backorders and finishing up all the cars at the shop. That's why currently we are not taking any new orders unless arrangement has been made with me. For products that we can deliver pretty fast, we can still take orders but for products that take a while to be done, we will not take the orders during this period. For V-Mounts, we can probalby take 2-3 orders at this time. and that will be it. So if you want one, you can email me at rotaryextreme@aol.com and let me know which one you want so I can check on the availability of the intercooler cores.

Whatever happens next, I will let you guys know.

Chuck

Thanks Chuck.

Basically, I don't plan on tracking my car much except for MAYBE autocross once or twice a year if I'm lucky. Mainly it's a wekend cruiser and I like to drive it pretty hard when I get the chance. I know there's no easy answer for this, I was just hoping to get a general concensus between the two.

Thank for all the input,

Ian

IMO, the ASP Med SMIC would be a good fit for your application.
