Rotary Extreme hood damper kit

Hey guys...purchased and installed this kit several weeks ago and and extremely pleased with it...it is extremely well made, makes life SO much easier, and is extremely easy to install. I tried searching before purchasing, but for some reason I couldn't find any posts of anybody else who bought this kit (I understand it's nearly identical to the TEIN kits).

I'll try to put up pictures later...basically the same as on the RE website. Has anybody else installed this? Comments?

i got one of the first sets he made i cant agree more with you. the cnc bracket is awesome. i made a nice post about it on nopistons since i got mine on his groupbuy over there. the major difference is the bracket on the hood. the tein from what i can see in the pictures only uses one hole. where chucks uses both holes. it doesnt interfer with closing the hood and i left my hood open for several hours while working on my friends fd. and it didnt drop down at all.

Just found the link..

http://www.rotaryextreme.com/hooddampernp.html

I might have to get a set.. Its very nice!
Also, How hard is it to shut it?? I have Fiberglass hood and I don't want to put too much pressure when shutting.. Maybe I could go with single shock? Never mind.. I see that he has one for aftermarket hoods.. Chuck is so smart!!

I also have it from Rotary Extreme. I think it's great. The hood rod doesn't get in the way because it's no longer there. Also, it's pretty easy to shut. Just lower it to a certain point and it'll just drop down. I'm very satisfied with it.

Any issues with a Carbon hood? I was thinking about getting this also.

I think there won't be any problems with carbon fiber hoods. That's what they used in the pictures at the Rotary Extreme website. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just be sure to have hoodpins I guess.

i have a cf hood and there is no problems. about half way down the hood will want to drop. and it will close normally. i do like to make sure my hood pins are lined up so i usually lower it by hand all the way then just give it a little push.

What would be the advantage of the "one passenger-side damper"? and also, what would happen if you used the 25lbs dampers on a aftermarket hood?...would it open it with a lot of force? (if you buy the kit for the stock hood and upgrade at a later time)

Bricke, in case you didn't notice, Chuck offers a damper for the stock hood, and a diff damper for lighter aftermarket (ie glass or CF) hoods

I'd imagine if it's too strong it could bend/warp the edge of the hood w/ time, or maybe even if it's too much pressure, it could blow straight through it??

I'm curious if you can use these dampers (for the aftermarket hoods) on a CF hatch...

this may be a dumb question but do these raise the hood on there own...just like the rear hatch, once you unhinge the hood?

Do you have to push on the hood to close it, or can you just let it drop from about 6 inches like before?

Forgive me but what's the point to it? I'm sure it's well made but couldn't you just place the hood prop in a different spot if you're doing it to clear an object?

P.S. Notice how I stuck up for chuck on the halfwit wanting to copy his IC? : )

Point is that if you are working on your car the hood prop won't be in the way and it is much easier when you open it, you just lift it up halfway and let go and the hood will just go straight up....Guess it's more of a luxury mod....

Jimlab....no you will have to push gently on the hood to close, you cannot just drop it to close.

Actually for me, the hood opens itself once it's about a third of the way up, and it'll close in on its own once it's about a third of the way closed. Kevin - this is definitely not a "performance" mod in any way, but really more of a convenience thing. Being able to remove the hood prop is just one of the small advantages...it's just great at the track to be able to just pop open the hood on my way back into the pits, and to just unlatch and lift to let the engine cool down.

The point to it? I have one of your large intercoolers and the duct is too high for the prop to seat right.

...Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. I think I'll be getting one of these hood dampers too.

Maybe you should double-check the duct to make sure it's fully seated. I had no problem whatsoever with my prop rod interfering with the duct for my ASP large IC.
