Rotary Aviation OMP Adapter

Two Problems with the kit:

(1) I had read about this on this site, the top front bolt hole is not properly aligned
with the bolt hole in the front cover. Luckily I have a spare cover to test fit the
adapter to, and had to make the bolt hole lager in one direction to prevent
binding.

(2) The two supplied "O" rings are the same size. They fit the adapter seal groove
perfectly. It is smaller than the OMP groove. They are too small for the OMP
groove, even when silicone sealant is used. My original OMP seal was in good
condition. I cleaned off the oil and siliconed it.

All else, it does work.

I also had to enlarge a bolt hole on mine cause it leaked. I don't remember which one however.

I had to slightly modify mine as well.

SO how well does it work compared to modifying the original pump for 2 stroke.

Are the RA alignment issues using the USDM pump? I used a Mikuni because I had space issues with the USDM and the only issue I had with the RA adaptor was one of the bolts was too short.

I did try modifying USDM first so I wouldn't have to buy both the RA adaptor and Mikuni OMP, but had trouble tapping an oil line fitting (small space) so went the RA adaptor/Mikuni route.

Just so people knows, with the stock twins I had to modify the front oil return line to fit the RA omp adapter. IIRC the turbo oil return line connect to another metal pipe. I had to move the flange to clear the omp/adaptor combo. I should have a picture somewhere.

The USDM OMP is thicker than the JDM Mikuni which may require modifying. I installed the Mikuni and had no fitment issues

Since my OPM was already modified with a 1/8' od pipe going into the oil reservoir in
the OMP that allowed me to fill it up and force all air out of it, I used mine.
The Rotary Aviation tube comes up from the bottom of the adapter which means it will take a while for the air to flow out through the two oil lines.

I used the RA adapter as a better oil leak seal system than my silicone seal system.

Thus I have the best of both.

The mislocated adapter hole and nothing to do with the OMP as it binds all by itself.
It is a manufacturer problem that has never been corrected.

Hey cewrx7r1, are you single turbo? I want to do this with stock twins and the adapter, sounds like the linear motor connector interferes with the front turbo oil drain? It looks like in pictures of the omp taken apart that someone could possibly rotate the motor housing so that the connector pointed somewhere else? If the motor only move in/out then rotating the housing should have no effect on the positioning? FD3S_wanted, did you ever find the pictures you had of your install? I don't want to have to shell out $$$ for a Mikuni pump if I don't have to

I attached a pic. The straight tube was cut and the flange was moved toward the engine.

^ Thanks, thats a really good shot of what is going on there! I do like that solution, we shall see what I come up with when I get to that point in the build.

So it turns out that in the pile of extra parts that came with the car was another OMP. I pulled the linear motor off last night and it looks like you COULD rotate the motor to get the connector out of the way if you made 2 small modifications. 1, the screws are not symmetrical, but 2 line up with tapped holes already there. The third screw doesn't line up with anything, but if you take the counter-sunk screw out that goes in from the other direction to hold the motor together you can use that hole instead. 2, there is a rib on the motor backing plate that interferes with a pin in the pump by about 2mm, grinding that for clearance should allow the motor to sit flush as designed. I am going to try this, $0 mod and if I screw up the pump I have another one.

Also, I should add that I'm not sure how many of you guys are ready to purchase at this point, rather than "just interested"... but I would most likely need a deposit to get this going.

More on that when I finalize pricing.
