Rookie boost ?

Hey guys,

I just bought my first FD and was wondering if I could get some info on what kind of boost I can run. The car has a single turbo conv. 60 ish trim T04 (I beleive ), V mount FMIC , Crane Cam ignition, 3in turbo back exhaust, motor has been street ported and has a stock ECU and fuel system. Im currently running 10lbs and it seems really healthy but have had some opinions that I could turn it up a bit....... So my ? is what could I run?
Any help is appreciated

"stock ECU and fuel system"

Get a standalone, bigger fuel pump and injectors before you go messing with it. You are playing with fire as it is.

You need to learn more about what has been done to your car.

It is extremely unlikely (bordering on impossible) that you are running a stock ECU and a single turbo. Additionally it is unlikely (but not impossible) that whomever had your car before you didn't upgrade the fuel system when they put in the single turbo.

A stock fuel system and a single turbo is a near instant recepie for a blown motor. The stock fuel system is only just enough to keep up with the stock twins.

The stock ecu would (for lack of technical terms) "freak out" if a single turbo was put in and would put the car in permenant limp mode.

Thanks for the reply's guys .... I took the car to a Shop in Columbus called ZN performance I believe the guy used to work at the RX7STORE, they gave It a look over and said it was stock. The car runs great but I with you I didnt think you could do the swap with stock ecu and fuel. Is there something I can look for that would tell me what fuel system is in it or if the ecu has been tuned? I have been a few other cars but I have to say these are a breed of their own!!!

From what i have found (looking around) a stock ecu will fuel cut just after 10lbs of boost. SO if you try to turn up the boost any and your are running the stock ecu.... well that would be bad.
Easy way to check if your ecu is stock is just look at it. its on the pass side (jdm car) under the dash, to the left. there is a little plastic body part to remove then you can see it.
Also the fuel pump takes all of 20 min to get to and then you can just run the number on it to find out if its stock or not.
Good luck.

Even at stock boost the CFM on a T04 is not the same as the stockers, which means he can blow it at anytime. 10 psi on the stock twins does not equal the same amount of air molecules being pushed (CFM)as a single at 10 psi.

If what you say is true you should not run any boost because the stock ECU is set for a particular boost level at an expected CFM at an expected flow rate of fuel. Change out the size of the turbo and all that goes out the window that is why all of us who have have a single turbo have an aftermarket ECU with a custom tune.

An actual wideband A/F gauge would give you an indication of how you are running.
