Reviving a forgotten 95 FD from a field...
I found a 95 rx-7 in a field about a week ago. bought it and have done the basics to get it going but im running into a major issue!
Ive changed/ replaced -oil/and filter -coolant -fuel filter (retarded) -spark plugs -wires NOW THE PROBLEM the car idles great! but when you press the gas it spudders and wants to die. what could be the problems thank you for your help |
Map sensor or TPS no work.
Might want to replace the 02 sensor while you're at it. |
pics!
|
where do i find the map sensor or tps?
|
the map sensor is on the firewall behind the throttle body. Should have a rubber hose and a vapor filter attached.
This will help you immensely: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...&highlight=FSM |
how do i know if its bad or how do i fix it?
|
How long does it idle great, and whats the idle rpm? Also what do you mean when you say press the gas? Immediately sputters? Sputters at 3000rpm? 6000 rpm?
Fill us in with more details if you can. |
depending how long it has sat for i would replace the gas
|
Replace gas, Make sure TPS is dialed in. Double tap the engine bay and look for anything unplugged or missing.
|
Well I'll be damned. Good find. I think your the first with a barn find FD.
|
Pics??
|
sat for 11 years- already replaced the gas with a cleaner and octane booster
so when i pressed very lightly on the gas maybe 1/8 down go to 4k and start to spudder and cut out IF I press 1/4 down or more like 1/2 or to the floor it immedietaly spudders out wanting to die. looked really well in the engine bay nothing is unplugged . dont know if anything is missing first rotary |
so ran the codes and it came back as the Fuel Thermosensor ....does this sound like it could be the problem .......where is it located cant find anything on that
|
called the dealer ...they say there is no such thing as a fuel thermosensor!!!!!!! someone please help
|
nevermind ive been reading the dam code wrong like a retard .....13 not 23 .... so 13 is intake pressure sensor
|
Sounds like the vacum line for the TPS is off or broken...

Fixed :) John |
Fuel Thermosensor... lol...
just curious, the guy who owned the farm where you bought the car, did you ask him what was wrong with the engine? |
if all it needs is a map sensor hose, you should go punch the PO in the nether region for neglecting a rarer sports car.
|
There is a fuel temperature thermosensor on a stock FD. Its in the secondary fuel rail.
Anyhoo, as far as the sputtering, maybe the car is in limp mode. Reset it and see? Sometimes when I don't mow my grass its like *I* find an FD forgotten in a field. Of course its just MY FD but oh well. |
Yup the sensor is on the secondary stock rail, sits in the middle of it...
