Retainer attaching brake pedal to the brake light switch?
Does anybody know what that retainer (or maybe it's called something else) is which keeps the brake light switch attached to the brake pedal? Mine just broke on me today and rear lights would stay on all the time.
Thanks!
Thanks!
That looks like the bumper that causes the pedal to actuate the switch. This MIGHT be a suitable replacement. I'm not sure if the clutch and brake bumpers are the same.

VERY common problem, the rubber bumpers on the clutch pedal fail all the time too.
Go to the hardware store and look at stick-on chair feet. Find one the appropriate size, stick on, done. I've been using this method for YEARS on FD's and FC's and it works great. Reasonably priced, easy install, available locally, and works in the long term.
And, FYI, it's not a retainer or anything, it's simply a rubber bump stop. It pushes the brake light switch which is what turns the brake lights on and off. That's all it does.

The stock part is rubber for a reason, the end of the brake switch is plastic. I don't want plastic banging into metal, that's an invitation for problems down the road.
But, a spare 10mm bolt will get you down the road.

Interesting point Dale. . .I've always used a little metal/chrome grommet available at Home Depot. They have the little "spingy" fingers that pop right in the hole and hold it nicely in place. Haven't had any problems so far being metal. I had used rubber before, but they always managed to find a way to come off. . .
Mine is going on for 10 plus years now, with no visible wear on the plastic plunger.
Oh well, something else will give before this one does, it's an RX7.
ThIS! broke on my car while I was at deals gap . I had to fix it on the side of the road , a quarter and some duct tape haha But I will be swapping my duct tape mod for that stick on I'm guessing it will last a bit longer than duct tape !
also the endo f the brake switch ALSO broke on mine at hte same time , so thankfully I had some epoxy . that brake switch plastic gets britle after 20 years I dont think i would put the 10 mm head bolt just because it is kind of a pain to remove on a busy highway

I put mine on over 10 years ago and have had no need to remove it.
Again, no wear on the plastic plunger, it's not like you are dropping a hammer over it every time you brake.
Anyways, stick to your plastic (no pun intended). ;-)
