Resumed working on my motor and I think I might have problems *PICS*

Well.... I have had everything to put my motor back together for a while now but my father passed away unexpectedly the weekend I was going to do it. I think I finally have everything back in order and started back on the motor last night.

Heres the front rotor ready to be diped...

Heres the rear rotor... I fear that because of all the rust it may be bad... perhapes someone here could clue me in. I figure I'll just dip it anyways and see how it turns out after it is cleaned up.

The second problem I noticed was that apon closer inspection of my front cover I saw a crack.... I turned it over and saw the same crack on the other side. What the crap!? This is isn't a load bearing peice is it? What could cause it to crack... this has me worried. Also... I assume that I'll need a new one because of this?!!?

These pics are 1024x768 so you can see the crack better so I'll make them links...

Inside of the front cover...

Outside of the front cover...

End story... if I need a new rotor and front cover.... anyone have one? Woo is me... I get back to the motor to find I still need more. This is turning into one of those things where I should have just sent it off to pineapple hahaha... O well at least I'm learning a whole hell of a lot in the process.

Yea, definatly should get a different front cover and rotor, that's just playing it safe IMO.

No shame in a learning experience man. Good luck with it

I agree, better safe then sorry, and putting back together the engine and having to tear it down again due to a failing part.

I mean im sure you could get by with the rotor, but do YOU really want to try?

I didnt see anything wrong with the front cover, it does not look like it is cracked from the pic. Its the marks left over from the cast. If you look at both sides, the marks are not the same, and if you run your fingers over the line, you will feel that it is raised. After you clean the rotor and if its not pitted, i would reuse it. How did it get so rusted?

Sorry about your father.

As bad as the rust looks, if you can get it clean, I think you are ok with this rotor. Just make sure it otherwise falls within spec.

There is nothing wrong with that front cover from what I can see. Just another internet opinion...FWIW.
