Requirements for 450rwhp Goal

I want to reach 450rwhp, at least, with my car. What items will I need to accomplish my goal? Here is a list of equipment I want or have, or know I need. Please, feel free to fill in any spaces that I left or make any comments or suggestions as you feel fit...

Single Turbo Kit (DP and intake included?), Midpipe/High-flow Cat, HKS Hiper Cat-back, Apexi FMIC (w/ piping?), Blowoff Valve (most effiecient?), Fuel Pump (flow rate?), Rising Rate Regulator, Injectors (primary/secondary sizes?), Apexi Power FC w/ Commander, Boost Controller (needed, type?)

I know I'll need some kind of upgraded clutch, probably ACT and a LSD, Kaaz?, once I get to/near my goal. I just need to know what I need to make that power, I'll handle the issue of withstanding it once I have this "shopping list" compiled...

I don't want a REALLY big turbo. I'd prefer to have something that spools before 4000rpm's... say, around 3500rom is full boost. I already have an Apexi S-AFC and my choice for a boost controller is the AVC-R. I've heard some people say that the 550/1600 combo is over-sized for most applications. I was planning on using it anyway, the set that RX7.com sells as a kit, with injectors, pump and regulator.

you might already have this but you'll need a good motor. Dont use some stock or Mazda raman motor with 50K miles on it. You'll just blow it up. You need a good motor from somewhere like KDR or Pettit if you want to run 450rwhp with it.

The Power FC controlls boost very well so you might not need an extra boost controller. Ask Jason with the RX7 Store, his car is similar to what your wanting and he's using the PFC so I'm sure he can tell you if your going to need the controller or not.

You also should upgrade the radiator and you will probably have to upgrade or replace the power plant frame (PPF) eventually as it will crack with that much power and a good launch.

I would get a EGT guage as well.

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IS TUNING!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate all the input, but please read my original message. I've already included that I'll get a new, ported, motor with 3mm seals and a single turbo kit.

Thanks for the tips on the fuel though, I had no idea what kind of fuel pump I should use. I haven't really heard anything about fuel pumps before. Will the RX7.com system be enough for that goal?

I know I'll get the power bug, I've had it since I got the car
Once I get my first goal, then it's to 9 sec 1/4

add to that list good tires.

I have 275/40/17 and around 340rwhp and I still get massive wheelspin shifting from 1st to 2nd.

Not a big deal man, but in your original post you make no mention of what kind of motor you'll be running.

Ari at RP told me that w/my current setup, if I swap out my stock twins for a T-78 and get the proper injectors I'll be looking at ~430 rwhp on 93 octane and 17psi.

he he :p My bad, I thought I put that in there. Anyway, I'll have a ported and worked motor put it soon to put these mods on. I'd like to have something that spools sooner than the T-78, but I'm not sure if that'd be conflicting with the turbo and power output goal? As for tires, I only have 265/35ZR18... but if I get that much rwhp then I'll probably move up to 17 or 18x10's in the rear and run 285/295?

First, you're gonna need about $13,000 for mods. That's for the minimum requirements and doing all the work yourself.

Ported motor
Turbo kit
MP/CB
Intercooler
ECU
Fuel pump
Injectors
Boost controller
Some other stuff I can't think of

It's best to size the turbo to the porting. You can't just slap on a turbo kit to a ported motor and expect a great setup.

I know a guy at XS who has a TO4S, with all the bolt ons, FMIC, 1300cc injectors. He was making almost 500rwhp I think.

I was looking at getting a XS turbo kit, the T04S.
What kind of things can benefit from gettin the engine ported to the turbo kit?

I've hear about the T04S and the smaller Apexi ball-bearing turbo spool quick and can handle around 400 or more rwhp and about $15000 for the FD for that amount of hp. That's too much for me - I have a hard enough time keeping my tires on the ground with 100 rwhp less than what you want. Good luck though

hey Jedon,

Is that a race/autocross tire that u are using ?
I have Kumho Ecsta , and yes, they are cheap(my buddy has super deal on em), I ended up getting all four for $410 shipped. Close enough to $99 General Tire hehehe...
I should've gone for Nitto Drag.

Yeah, they are DOT legal race tires with stiff sidewalls so are not really good for drag launches. They are comparable to Kumho V700's but last longer on the street. I paid $700 for the set from Tirerack.
