Replacing rear hatch struts!

Hy guys,

I have a set of replcement hatch struts that I got off Ebay. They are Sachs Part No:SG227005.

Can anyone give any advice on how to go about installing these. IE taking out the old and installing the new?

Had a look at it earlier and it doesnt look as simple as I first thought! Any advice welcome.

Thanks.

Two ways to do it:

1. The hard way.

Remove all of the surrounding interior panels, so that you can access the base of the round ball that the strut snaps onto. Then unbolt the ball while the strut is still attached. You cannot remove the strut from the ball without damaging something. Then bolt on the new ball, and snap the strut onto it.

2. The easy way (recommended)

Carefully cut away at the old strut (that you are throwing away anyway) until you are able to remove it from the existing ball. Then simply snap the new strut onto the existing ball.

Thanks for reply.

When you talk about cutting away at the old strut that is attached to the ball, are you talking about theball on the hatch itself or on the body of the car??

Also, it was where the strut is attached to the body that looked the difficult bit to me, was I mistaken??

Thanks again.

You need to cut it away where the strut attaches to the body. As I recall, the end that attaches to the hatch is pretty easy to remove.

Do one at a time, and use something to support the hatch while you are doing the swap.
