replacing egr

how difficult would it be to replace the egr myself as well as the cost. if not how much would it cost to have it done, sorry i have minimal time to research these things, and i'm posting this during class. thanks

Don't replace the EGR as it will most likely not solve the problem. The passages become clogged overtime and usually it is not the valve itself that is failing. The best solution is to replace it with a 12v relay as detailed in this thread:

The guy I'm buying it from said he had it checked and it was the egr, plus the engine only has 5k on it. Not sure if that makes a difference but i'll try the 12v relay see if that turns the check engine light off. thanks for the info

Would have to guess this is a 94 since you didn't say and the 93 doesn't care, the 95 doesn't have one. If your going to upgrade later any way then get a different ecu. They usually go cheaper or as cheap as the egr any way. Jack

got it fixed earlier this morning, just some carbon buildup, cleaned right off and turned that annoying light off with it. thanks

Cleaning the carbon build up tends to be a temporary fix. In a couple weeks it will start throwing the CEL again. The 12v relay fix is the best way to eliminate the problem.

funny you should say that cause the damn light came back on about an hour ago. I'll probably end up doing that relay fix in the next couple of weeks or whenever i come home again, thanks again rex
