Replacing a air pump
I was wondering if you guys had any tips on replacing a air pump on my 95 mazda rx7. Also do you guys know if a bad air pump with affect the performance of my car. Thanks.
A bad airpump will not hinder the performance of you car initially, but through time your main cat will clog causing restrictions in the exhaust. And depending on where you live, you probably will not pass smog. Find youself another one from the parts for sale section or from www.thepartstrader.com, good luck
Well for one your in cali so you need a functioning Air pump. As for your second question. Yes it will effect your cars performance. The air pump actually provides secondary air injection at low rpms. If the air pump is unplugged you will have to turn your Idle Air contril screw way up just to get it to idle right. Also light throttle will dog without an airpump. Not to mention fouled plugs like mad.

I had to have mine replaced. I was charged $450 for a used one from Rotary Reliability. A new one is over $1,000 but they had it installed before I had a chance to search parts trader or junk yards.
I have a Greddy Pully kit that can bypass it, but from the other posts sounds like I will leave it connected.
