Repairing 02 sensor wire on engine harness

Right where the 02 sensor wire runs into the main harness, the wire is bare. The copper looks ok.

Should I just peel away the harness wrap until I've uncovered the bare wire and re-wrap it? (Can't do heat-shrink b/c of the plug). Or cut out the bare patch, solder, and use heat-shrink?

I would probably do a splice somewhere near the plug so that you could get shrink-wrap over the bare wire. Once the shrink-wrap is on then splice the ends with an insulated crimp connector such that all copper is covered.
