Question repainting FD wheel center caps

what color is a match for the centercaps? mine are peeling. in another thread they mentioned "toyota silver" but the local auto parts store says there are many variations of that color. anyway, im sure someone out there has found a good match .

thanks once again, heath

I think the caps are actually chrome plated plastic. You -could- get them replated, but it wouldn't be cheap.

David, not all wheels were chrome plated, most were just alloy with a silver and clearcoat.

Toyota Wheel Silver matches quite well as well -- I found this paint at Advanced Auto Parts.

Most any parts store will have Dupli-Color paint. I've always used Toyota Silver - just look at the import spray paints and find a Toyota Silver. Scuff up the center caps a bit with a Scotchbrite pad, clean with degreaser, and put a few good light coats on. Easy, cheap, and makes a HUGE difference.

I used a tamiya model paint on mine, aluminium silver -part number XF-16 i think. It should cost about $2 from a model shop, matches excellently and can also be used to fill in any scuffs on the alloy.

I also used semi-gloss black to fill in the chips on my door handles, and italian red to fill in stone chips. There are many many colours you can use for many purposes

thanks for the input guys.... ok teh next thing i wanted to ask about is what to use to repaint the windshield wipers. they are a flat sort of black color stock (mine are a bit rusty though) but i was wondering what paint would stand up to the daily abuse of sun, rain, etc etc like the stock stuff did?

No, not the wheels, the centre caps. They are pressed in on rubber rings, are plastic, and are chrome plated. The aluminum wheels did come painted or chrome plated.

Another option (for the rich would be to buy the effiny centre caps.
