removing inner door panels walk thru..
Hey guys,
I've tried searching for a decent walk thru regarding the inner door panels. I'm changing the speakers out on the car and just wanted a bit of a guideline on how to remove the inner door panels without wrecking anything.
There's a decent walk thru for the rear speakers (I have the non bose stereo) by Max Cooper, so I'm all set for that adventure.
And I have seen a few picture sites regarding the door panels, but nothing that really walked you thru.
Anyone have a link or walk thru's they've made when attempting this?
Thanks,

I think DaleClark's site had the best how-to. Unfortunately it's long gone after his site was hacked.
IIRC, the retaining clips on the edges of the panel are removed by pushing the center plug inward then pulling out the whole thing out. There might also be screws underneath...sorry, not near the the car and can't remember for sure. As mentioned in that first google link, remove the window switch on the passenger door to access the handle retaining screw. There are also screws in the door cups under the removable cover. Then you raise up slightly while pulling the panel away from the door. Reach in and unplug the switches and speaker connectors. Be careful with the plastic dust liner and try not to tear it. It goes back on easier.
I may have forgotten something but really it's pretty intuitive. The main thing is to go slow, be deliberate and don't force things.
While you're in there swapping speakers, it's a great time to add some sound deading. I did a combination of self-adhesive sound insulation and some spray-on rattle-can undercoating/sound insulation on the inside panel. And some silicone caulk between the crash bar and door skin. Makes a world of difference in sound quality and a nice solid "thunk" when shutting the door.

Thanks guys. I especially like the google link. That was cute.
Thanks Jim for the little pace notes. I'll make sure to get that hidden screw. otherwise it's pretty straight forward.
Hopefully get some nice weather this weekend to tackle this task.
