ok so here is my question. since someone disconnected the pipe from the cat and capped it off do i need to remove the air pump? It should still be delivering air to the exhaust port right if it is still on just that the pipe to the cat has been removed/capped.

thanks

be careful when going wit a short belt. i used a 300k4 belt the 1st time and it stretched in no time and overheated my engine thank god i didn't kill a coolant seal. so i then went with a 29 and 3/4" belt 4 ribbed and have not had a problem since, but this belt required some modification to go onto the alternator like removing a casing bolt from the alternator and grinding of the open ear the bolt went through so the alternator can go low enough to clear the belt for install. i would recommend going with the greddy pulley and belt kit rather than go through the hassle. as for a rough idle, i didn't have that issue when i disconnected the airpump plug with stock ecu. my car is a 93 by the way.

disconnect the airpump connector and see if ur idle gets rough. if ur idle is rough u will have to leave them in.

Air Pump = yes

Main cat = yes, but not advisable with stock ECU

Even if idle is rough, it's still not going to affect driveability or make the car anymore unreliable. The airpump can be removed. the idle will be rough, but like I said....

quicksilver, while not every car is the same, if you end up with these symtoms^, with virtually NO performance benefit, wouldn't that qualify as affecting "drivablility"?

Well, the only way I would remove the airpump is if I'm taking the rest of the emissions stuff off. Other than that, it is kinda pointless. Especially if you have to pass emissions.

So idle and initial throttle response is affected, big deal. The airpump doesn't engage at high RPM anyway.

The bad idle and throttle response is just annoying when driving around town and such. Personally, I opted to leave my airpump in even though I am running a midpipe.

well i left mine on my car, i unhooked it for awhile and when i came to a redlight or stop sign or whatever and the car started to surge, it reminded me to much of all my cammed mustangs and stuff, it is just nicer to hear the nice purring idle, since it really doesnt make the damn car any faster anyways.
