get a respeed replacement pedistal it has a takeoff for additional sender. It looks like your original pedistal was removed from the pix.

if your gonna do that you could just ket a Fram with the black grip top!!!!!

but if your going to do that you might as well just go finish your frosted flakes and bolt the box onto the pedestal, does the same thing haha

I'm glad you added the second part, otherwise we might have an issue .... fram filters=quick death .

It was always my understanding that the greddy relocation kit did in fact replace the factory oil filter pedestal. It's kinda hard to tell from your picture but it doesn't look like it's there to me, at the very least I'd go pick one up (especially since rich is just giving them away! ) on the chance you *might* need it. If you don't, shoot it back over to rich with a nice thank you card and be happy you don't have to deal with that unholy mess anymore .

I took off the elbow tonight to get a better look. BTW, I did find that the elbow was a bit of a pain to take off as the hose on the back side didn't want to come off so I took the large hose off the front instead. I'm also not exactly sure how I'm going to thread those nuts again on the bottom.

Anyway, the more I look at it the more I think that the Greddy relocation kit was tacked on to the OE pedestal.

Here is another picture. Not great because it is hard to get my SLR in the small space.

Also, what is this thing that was bolted on the outside of the elbow on the bottom?


There are two attachment points. The one on the back right (you can see it better in the first picture) has a metal bushing or washer in the middle of the plastic hole. The hole on the left is missing that metal bushing or washer. I'm afraid that when I tighten down on this when I reassemble everything that the plastic piece may crack without that metal bushing. What is this thing and can it be replaced?

that is the catch tank from the purge control solenoid valve good luck finding one, your better off either having a bushing made, not hard to do, or finding someone that deals parts, like fritz flynn if anyone would have it he would

Thanks. Now I just need to found out what a catch tank for the purge control solenoid does. More reading....

I don't really want to remove the thing if I can help it. I'd rather not mess with too many of the hoses more than necessary. I'll see if I can get some measurements on it without taking it out. I'm going to need to buy some calipers.

room for oil filter?

As I was digging around there trying to get a look at the oil filter base pedestal ("base" and "pedestal" are probably redundant I suppose), I noticed that there really isn't a whole lot of room for an oil filter in there. How tall are the oil filters? It look like it could be a rather tight fit.

As long as I'm asking questions.... When I took the elbow off, I noticed that the inside of it was coated with oil. It this normal?

yes, oil is injected into the housing, and sometimes in cornering this oil leeks out into the intake stream, its perfectly normal

The GReddy relocation kit base that mounts to the pedestal just unscrews that's it.
comes off just like the oil filter would.

+1 Match a filter wrench up and use an extension that clears for loosening and tightening. That simple. If you want to add gauges for monitoring pressure and temp. The newly updated re speed pedestals w/ 2 npt fittings mounts are the way to go. G

Stock filters are great to use and are pretty cheap. Some Mazda dealers have specials where you buy 2 and get the 3rd free (at least my local one does). A lot of people dislike Fram but I havent heard of a Fram related engine failure. I usually use Bosch or factory Mazda filters.

Is that why in 1995 Fram was forced to recall nearly all of their filters produced in the first part of that year. Fram filters are also not allowed in any major U.S. racing organizations due to them failing and exploding causing crashes and injuries that year? just curious

(I think Fram sued Kellogs!) haha

Im not trying to argue with you nor defend Fram but I've never seen a thread here saying "my engine is dead because of my Fram oil filter." I also didnt recommend him using a Fram filter either because everyone says they suck. I've used them in the past at random times with no ill effects as far as I can tell but I always try to get either Mazda filters or Bosch.

Why did Fram sue Kellogs?! Im guessing this involves some of the cardboard Fram uses?
