Thumbs up Removal of AST for zero pressure Evans was easy!

Disclaimer:

*THIS WILL ONLY WORK FOR ZERO PRESSURE EVANS, THIS MOD WILL NOT ALLOW ANY PRESSURE IN THE COOLING SYSTEM AND YOU'LL ENGINE WILL OVERHEAT IF YOU DO IT WITH REGULAR COOLANT MIX!!!*

I decided to do this because I disliked the location of the ast and routing of the hoses with my M2 large IC. I thought of different places to put it but since I'm using Evans I thought I didn't really need it.

I just plugged the radiator nipple with a piece of hose with a bolt and clamp and connected the stock filler neck nipple directly to the overflow tank. I didn't change to an FC neck for this. I've been driving the car with no problems.

The only possible issue is that the stock filler neck may have a space filled with air above the nipple unless you pinch the hose while filling and cap it before it goes down to the overflow.

Opinions??

My opinion is that I hate the AST too. Also I hope you are not saying removal of teh AST will ONLY work with Evans,... cause your are very wrong. I have been running without it for 5 years and have no problems,... actually it's better cause I don't have to worry about another possible leak in the system. I went 1 step further and welded the extra nipple shut,.. after removing the nipple of course.

There are alot of people on this board that do not run a AST. So again the disclaimer is not needed and incorrect. FWIW, I have the FC cap and i never get above 100C And that is only on a 97 degree day going up the steepest hill in NC

Yep POS7,.. I moved in the end of March

Potatochobit- I have the 86-88 cap with the nipple for the overflow,.. The nipples I am reffering to are the ones that get plugged by a hose and bolt as the thread starter stated. I also welded the heater hose feed and the other 2 that feed the TB coolant return and the turbo water. As I am singled with a oil cooled turbo they were going to need to be plugged as well. Which in my mind is 2 more places a leak can start Hence why i welded them. As for the heater hose feed,.. well i was not moving to NC when i did that. Living in Hawaii I never used the heat But now it rains more and we have a little thing called winter that i hadn't been in for years. So I am redoing the heater hose feed with a NPT tap hose fitting.

I know a lot of people don't use the ast, the disclaimer is just for the way I removed it by using the stock filler neck nipple connected directly to the overflow. This way of doing it will not work with pressure caps and you'll have a zero pressure system regardless of the cap used. Regular coolant mix will boil over and the car will overheat with no pressure. Since Evans doesn't have this problem, then it works fine in this scenario.

Now, to have a properly pressurized system with regular coolant mix and no ast both stock nipples (filler neck and rad) need to be plugged (or welded shut) and a 86 FC filler top with nipple and pressure cap installed in place.

Ahh I see what you meant now I was curious why you went from the stock nipple to the overflow. So i guess the disclaimer was warranted All clear now
