Temporary dressing...needless to say, some cutting required.

Same here. Works well and has a good warranty. My first one took a crap after 6 months, but this one's been doing better

I used an Odyssey/Hawker PC680...very small and works good if you drive everyday...

If I were to do it again I would get the Optima 51R yellow top. Does anybody know if that drops in the bin without any cutting?

I use the red top, i like how i can not drive the car for weeks and just jump in and turn it over and it starts like a champ. Less chance of flooding.

Cutting the bin isn't a big deal at all. I have a deep cycle Optima (Yellow top). The nice thing about deep cycle batteries is the cranking speed does not change as the battery discharges.

A Miata (AGM) battery will fit in the bins with no cutting. The Westco Miata battery costs about $80, weighs 25lbs, and still has enough juice for the winter (barely). Put some epoxy in the bottom of the bin to level up and figure out how to secure it. Cut holes for cable and run 2 awg welding wire through driver fender to stock battery location. Simple and cheap (about $100).

The first Westco's were backwards but the newer ones are the same as the Miata. It looks like the newer ones would fit in the regular battery tray with some blocks underneath and on the sides.

I use the Odyssey 920C Dry cell. Justs slides right in and doesn't need any reinforcement to keep it from sliding around

There are only three optima battery types. The full-size red top, the full-size yellow top, and the 51R size yellow top.

There'a a blue top too, which is for marine applications. They've got some heavy duty models in that lineup.

Optima Redtop was the best until this mechanic stole it a while back. BTW I relocated the battery to the trunk since I have rear seats

something u should know about relocating the battery

be sure to not only take the paint off the ground point

but u have to sand it down nice,
the reason is you need to get rid of the clear coating so it does not interfere with high RPM ecu and other electronic functions.
