Relocated Coils & Fried Wiring Harness

I relocated my coils to the driver's side frame rail this weekend and when I started it up, it ran really good for about 45 seconds before the car died. Then I had a white plume of smoke come billowing out from under the hood. The coil harness fried and I'm not sure why. After doing some research, it appears that there are some issues with using the ground on the coil harness as mentioned in post #8 here: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...+harness+fried

Has anyone else heard of this? When I relocated the coils, I did not modify any of the wiring at all. However, I did spend extra time to make sure that I had very good grounds from the ignition harness to the mounting bracket for the coils, and to the engine block. After reading the above post, I'm wondering if this is what caused my problem. I'm running an HKS Twin Power also.

I just relocated mine and they are still doing fine. Maybe your coil harness was just too old?

That's what I'm hoping. I guess I'll find out when I put a new one in there.
