Releasing Tranny from MOTOR
Releasing Tranny from MOTOR
I am wondering if anyone can help me release the tranny from the motor. I know you can unbolt the 6 bolts that holds the pressure plate to the fly and I also heard that there is another way that doesn't deal with that. Can someone please explain to me how to do this (w/ as much detail as possilble). All the Tranny mounts are unbolted, all I have left to do is releasing the tranny from the motor in order for it to slide back and drop.
Thanks!!
Chris

Theres a little inspection plate on the trans open that look in and ull see a little ring u have to push it towards to motor to pop off the trans i wish i had pics to show you but i hope that helps
If you haft to ask how to remove a T/O bearing from a pull off pressure plate. You really shouldn’t be doing it in the first place.
This is goes against my better judgment but...............................
#1 put 2 bolts back in to the bell housing. And lightly tighten them.
#2 support the engine/trans in a way that you can pull the inspection plate.
#3 grab a flash light, pull the inspection plate off.
#4 Grab 2 long (12in or better) flat head screw drivers.
#5 have a friend hold the flash light so you can see inside the bell housing.
#6 once you are looking in the bell housing you will see the T/O bearing/ the lock collar/ pressure plate spring fingers. All of the pressure plate fingers will point to the lock collar. this is where you will need to release the T/O bearing. Wile looking at the lock collar you will see a thin ring made of sheet metal. ( you will be viewing it from the side so its easy to miss) That is 1/2 way between the T/O bearing and the lock collar.
#7 with your 2 screwdrivers on each side of the ring. Slowly and EASYLY work the ring FORWARD (to the front of the motor) till it sits flat on the lock collar.
#8 with one screwdriver holding the ring flat. Use the other to push the T/O bearing to the rear.
#9 once it slides to the rear you are good to go.
#10 reverse the above steps.

Here is another example of the importance of getting a copy of the Mazda manual. They are online for free downloading. It shows how to do these things.

That's a bummer. The video was quite handy for people who have never delt with the pull-type clutches. Use the suggestions in this thread as well as this thread:

You should be good to go. Unfortunately, the FSM isn't much help in this section. It only makes sense after you have successfully done it once.
