Refinishing an R 1 front tower strut bar

Has anyone tried to refinish the red RX 7 front tower strut bar? I bought one from a '95 RX 7 that is scratched and in need of refinishing.

Take it to a polishing shop. Probably cost you like 20-30 bucks or so to get it nice and shiny.

Bare metal is exposed in many places. I would like to get it powder coated black with the retained crome RX 7 emblem. My FD is black.

Well, they would probably have to polish it then powder coat it. Since you said it had scratches. So 20-30 bucks for polishing and 20-30 bucks for powder coating. I have never paid normal prices for polishing/power coating work so I could be off on the prices.

I refinished mine. Drilled out the pop rivits that hold the "RX-7" logo and removed it. Sanded the brace smooth. Tested the remaining paint with the "Endura" paint thinner ("Endura" is a two part "epoxy" paint - polyurethane paint). The thinner didn't soften the remaining paint so I sprayed it CYM - like my car. Did the end pieces and the logo dark blue - a dark blue clearcoat actually, with the "RX-7" left shiny aluminum. Re-pop rivited the logo back on the brace. Ended up looking nice (I don't think red goes well with yellow and wanted to get the red out of the engine compartment).

Just sand it smooth, cover the emblem, prime it and paint it. Use a good quality paint. No biggie.

I refinished mine. just sand the bar down and mask the emblem off . go to pep boys and get a can of plasti-kote truck & sport utility spray paint in victory red code # 1579 . it matches the vintage red perfectly. mine looks like a new factory bar.

I would paint it black, unless you have a red car.

i have a black car and my r1 strut is polished. to prevent rusting all you need to do is give it a lil elbow greese with some mothers polish. its one of my favorite parts under my hood too.
