You will get more attention from other drivers with a red car, but also more attention from the police.

Silver is a cool color on an FD. I like it everytime I look at one. But I really like VR. It's a really nice color as well. Whatever. It's your choice.

See the word "attractive" which I used?

Thanks for helping me make my point.
What are you talking about?

I think you may have the misconception on what "most attractive and exciting" mean. I am not talking about pleasing to the eye attractive, but the physics of the color. I think that you may need to check your comprehension first, or maybe I should have spelled it out.

I appologize if I may have offended anyone in the previous post.

Actually, you're wrong on that count too. Have you seen any late model fire trucks which are painted a yellowish-green? The reason: testing revealed that color is much more visible than red,
and the thinking is that it makes it safer for a truck painted that color to speed through traffic.

That's great and all, but were talking about red vs. silver, not a yellowish-green RX-7.

If you don't mind, please PM me the article link, I would like to read it.

I have an original VR paintjob (w/ black interior) with the "High Reflex" paint option, and the color is eye-popping. The high reflex red is a 3-stage paint with a clearcoat, so it is very "deep". A lot of red FDs have fading and the early reds have a chipping problem too, but this does not apply to the high reflex optioned cars. If you get a red one, try and get one with this option (I believe it was only available on the touring). With that said, I love silver, that is my favorite color, esp. silver on black. With all else being equal, if I had the choice, I'd choose silver.

Personally I just never liked red cars in general. Every car I've ever bought in my whole life( and I bought alot!) has been either silver or black. Black does look great but it's really hard to keep clean. Silver on the other hand looks good even dirty.

red is my least favorite color for RX-7s. Red looks good on many cars, but IMO the RX-7 is not one of them.

My ranking of stock colors would be:

1) Yellow
2) Silver
3) Black
4) Montego Blue
5) White
6) Red

Talking Whadayathink?!?

If the choice is silver or red, i'd pick white. Whadayathink I'd select anything else?

Actaully, do you have a choice of two really good cars, one red and one silver? Lucky you. I bought the one that seemed to be in the best condition.

Besides the white reduces the "solar drag" increasing the top speed. Black absorbs more light which is why the are inheranetly slower ( and break more).

Can't argure with that, huh

Silver!. The paint is superior to Red, as red fades. Black is nearly impossible to keep clean. We have over 20 FD in our club and silver is the best. I know the paint on silver is good as I have had the car since Aug. 1992. BTW it matchs my hair color.

My opinion: It depends on the wheels you have

My take is that if you like highly polished wheels, or tuner type wheels (I think you know what I mean), those go better with red or the other FD colors.

Personally, I like the stock wheels, or 17" as near to stock looking as possible wheels, and I think these look best with a silver car. Back in 98 when I was looking for my car I had an open mind but was hoping to find a silver one. As it turned out I found a silver one in great shape with a black leather interior. Since then I added 17" wheels that I think match the silver but would not be as nice on another color FD. What do you all think? - see the link below - My first choice was the 99 OEM wheels, but didn't feel like spending that much bank, so I got these used for a good price with A032R's on them.

I don't like red in general not only on RX-7s.

For some odd strange reason I think red looks 1000 times better on a FC than a FD, and Silver looks 10 times better on a FD than a FC....

My ranking of stock colors would be -->

1) Yellow
2) Silver
3) Montego Blue
4) Black
5) Red
6) White

Overall choice: CYM with Red leather interior and
a close second: Silver with Black leather interior

red is SO 1980s

For the 2 talking about colors and which one attracts more attention-->
Yellow catches the eye first, then green, red, ....
there is a chart (visible spectrum) or something like that....

If I could have found one i would have chosen silver. But I'm happy with my VR the paint still looks awesome specially in bright sun My best friend has a red MKIV Supra so its cool to see peoples looks when they drive by the house if both car are parked next to each other in the driveway.

Silver is really nice but it seems like everyone selling a Silver FD wants about 3 to 4 thousand more than what the car is worth. I realize they're in high demand but I can get the car painted whatever color I like for $3000. I'm think '99 spec blue, hmmm....

And I realize that the CYM is rare and all that stuff, but it doesn't look very good. Especially from the back, you get that whole funky black on yellow thing going with the taillights. There's a very faded CYM at the autocrosses I go to and it looks really bad.
Yellow just seems like it's one of those, hey look at me colors that attracts your attention because it stands out so much, but it doesn't necessarily look good.

I bet you guys can't guess what color I'll choose??

I also have a 93 Red R1 that has been painted a yellowish-green chameleon color....the same color discussed in earlier posts.

I'm kinda partial to silver.....my Denali is Silver also. My Mustang vert is Yellow though

I pick the....FD! I love the car in any color! If I had to pick though, I am partial to silver. Just because it looks classy and it is easy to keep clean.

Lightbulb Individuality?

I guess it's interesting to see what everyone has to say about this, but it seems strange to ask others what color you like.

Go with the one YOU like

Yeah go with the one that you like more.. it's more of a personal preference.. i own a silver FD, so i would pick silver.. it's more conservative, since it blends in with all those other "silver civics" hehe.. red will attract more police, etc..
