Question Red Painted FD rear tail covers

Sorry if this is a ricey question, but I was wondering if anyone had any pics of an FD with the rear tail light covers painted red. I'm not sure if it would even show up well since the covers are tinted (and still be translucent), but I'm sure someones tried it. I saw a few years ago someone posted pics of Bill Gammon's FD which apparently had the coveres painted, but all of the links were dead. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
jeff

right, while I don't want to insult anyone else's car, that particular taste is not what I had in mind. I wanted to maintain a translucent look to entire part that currently tinted blackish now. Basically just tinted red, not black. I would not want it to match the the car perfectly though so it blended in--a little darker, which would probably be the effect anyway if i painted over the smoked cover. My friend did a photochop of sorta what i had in mind. I'll post once he sends it to me....

here's my photochopped pics I was hoping to see someone had success doing in real life... My concern is that they are too dark stock for the red to even show up.

your reverse light would show up red no matter what. If you do this you'll probably get pulled over more than it's worth. Especially in Cali CHP sucks

Huh? The reverse lights are in the bumper (just to the left and right of the plate), not in the main taillight housing...

it's actually not that bad... interesting is what it is. I still wouldn't do it on my own for fear of being associated with the rice crowd. It's alot better than the first attachment ^^

Bill is a close friend of mine, here are some pics of his car. Don't ask about the silver spoiler, he keeps it silver for a reason other than looks.

and an action shot, just cause I love watching him drive

I think the tailights are the one of the best, most distinctive features of the car. There are a heck of alot of car manufacturers right now whose design departments can design great headlights and hoodlines, but precious few have figured out how to finish the back end of a car. See: Corvette.

I can't imagine why you'd muck it up by painting them.

So you wetsanded the stock black pastic on the tailights? Reason I ask is that mine are horribly faded to a dull gray color and I think wetsanding and buffing them might bring the shiny black back.

I've seen a Gold FD with everything painted to match the body except the Series-8 circular openings.

It sounds awful, but it actually looked really good...

I painted mine about 5 years ago, got the idea from the Millen RX-7 which I thought was really nice looking. See mine (standard VR Touring) also included the Millen pic, what a great color red they chose!!! Cheers, I think I spent about $300 for a shop to do it....

BTW after I read further I noticed the flames from this thread on my rear light paint job. Ouch. : )

I used to have a black RX-7 and prefer the same color lights, which is one of the reasons I like the black. Whether or not you think it is ugly, is your own preference however it is definitely not rice. In fact I prefer the look, got the idea from the Millen RX-7. I felt like it really finishes it out nicely! Beats an oversize, heavy, useless rear wing anyday! : )
