Red light on oil gauge flickering

At cruising speeds I'm getting the red light on the oil pressure gauge flickering. If I give it some throttle, then it'll go off, and at idle, it stays off. This is the low oil level/low pressure light correct? Is it the sender that controls this light? I keep checking my oil level and keep it near full. The pressure doesn't seem off, it's close to 60 at 3000rpm. Anyone else have this? Or know why it's flickering? It's worrying me.

low level only...level sensor on the pan.

single wire tends to break...check it.

Also take a look at some of your other lights on the dash. If you are seeing some others fade on like that, it could be a precursor to an alternator failure.

Everytime I check my oil though, it's almost at full. I think I will replace my oil press sender also, I was getting REALLY high readings before, but not anymore.

Off-topic, but I've heard of people mentioning the oil gauge linearization mod. I can't find any info on it, so could someone elaborate. And what sender do people usually use? I know your site has it Dale, I need to check it out. Great site btw, it's helped me on a lot of projects =)

A few months ago I was FREAKED out to see my little red light come on....pulled over and was like, "oh ****....not my NEW ENGINE!" Then I remembered what it was for, low oil level....NOT low pressure (my pressure was fine). Checked it and sure enough! It was about a quart low. You see, my old engine, for whatever reason, NEVER used oil. Not a drop.
Nada.
Zip.
Zilch.
So now that everything is working as it is supposed to, I am using oil as it is supposed to.

I just got this yesterday, turned out that the nut that holds the positive on the alternator came off and the wire was bouncing on the post. Tightened it back down...all gone.

cld, the link doesn't work.

Ahh ok, no wonder I couldn't find anything on the oil gauge linearization.

So is there any reliability mods for the oil press. gauge besides just changing the sender?
