Recommend an exhaust to me...
I ordered an M2 Dual Tip from AIM Tuning.
I'm selling my current Trust Sport Catback because it's now too loud. It's 5 years old, and the muffling material must be all burned up. FWIW, I have a downpipe and high flow cat. I'm sure this contributes to the noise level.
Anyhow, if you want a loud exhaust, my Trust is for sale--$120 cash. Go to the Part For Sale forum, and you'll find the details there.

Well I wouldn't listen to all the negative comments about the so called "canister" mufflers, because most people like to follow the "trends" like a heard of sheep. If you've ever seen either the RB or M2 then you'll know that they aren't much improvement (if any) over a stock catback, and IMO they're a TOTAL waste of money. I say go with what "you" want and not what others want! If you want something loud then you know exactly where to go! Btw, the silencer does reduce some of the flow, but it's useful if you need to be quieter for a particular situation. It only takes 5 min. to install, then you can always take it out.

the cannister exhaust system has been "trendy" ever since the import scene got big.
Well if you take a look around this forum everyone and their brother has something "excellent" to say about the RB or M2, and most of them don't even have one. There are only a few people that have the M2 on here, yet everyone "knows" it's a great exhaust! How do you figure? As for the Pettit and Jimlab comments, did you ever think that they might be willing to trade off a little hp for a quieter car?

are you giving up a few horses for a quieter car??
I ordered an M2 because of the dual tip, full polish finish, and the straightest possible design available for the FD. I hope to have it installed in a couple of weeks.

The M2 is way better than stock.
I had to run the stock muffler temporarily after I sold my N1 Dual and was waiting on the M2 to arrive.
I was really hurting with the stock exhaust. I had absolutely no low end power. I had to rev higher just to get rolling. Stock exhaust had no power except after 2nd turbo kicked in. But, it was real quiet.
Once my M2 arrived I was back to the power levels I enjoyed with the N1 Dual. I admit, the M2 exhaust does not have quite as much top end power as the N1 dual. So I guess I traded some power for a quieter car. To me, it was a very favorable trade.
The stock exhaust is not even close in terms of power.
I have an older blitz streetspec catback, and it's pretty much the same as a nur spec, other than the canistor.. i like the sound of mine, so the nur spec probably isn't so bad..
looks good too..

Jim, can we clear things up on why you are using a "marginally better than stock. waste of money" Racing Beat exhaust system??

If you have extensive flow data comparing the two, please share your wealth and I'll take back the comment.

im assuming the only reason you think they do not flow as well is because they are quiet??

From: My 350Z Roadster kicks my RX7's butt
probably should post my $.02, but...
I think RB & M2 are higher flow, just as the HKS on my Honda. But I do beleive there is a trade off loosing high end to gain mid range. The Greddy has more high end than HKS on my CRX and the N1 duals have more mid range than the GT on the 7.
I currently have the Greddy SP on my 7 and it seems deep & quiet to me but people tell me than can hear me a block away and it sets off alarms.

You're right I do not have any data to back up my statement, but by design(which is obvious just by looking at them) the open exhausts or so called "canister" will flow much more at any given rpm. This is not an opinion it is a fact. Just look at the diameters of the pipes. I guess if someone had a cut-up view of either the RB or M2 then we could actually see how free flowing they really are. If they produce less noise then some kind of restriction has to be in there. It can't be magic. At least I don't think..... Btw, I never said they don't flow well, I said they don't flow "as" well.
The RB is a straight-through design just like the cans, it's quieter because there's more insulation around the straight-through pipes. The sound reduction isn't due to any baffles in there.
On another note, anyone know if the new carbon-fiber exhausts will slowly burn away like the carbon-fiber race exhausts do on sportbikes from the heat?

If I get the Apexi then will I have to modify the plastic skirt under the bumper to accomodate the tip? Is the large tip going to look strange coming out from under the skirt that is configured for a duel tip? already ordered another skirt from Mazda to replace the one my wife melted.
