Rebuilds in NorCal, where?
I'm looking for a good shop to have the FD rebuilt, so far my only options seem to be a local shop (that screwed it up in the first place), Ricks Rotary in Pleasenton (115mi away), or shipping it off to Pineapple Racing and have the local shop do it. I'm looking for a mild streetport and new seals all around. Any suggestions?
Go to Checkpoint Engineering. They are very good! Probably one of the best in the country for FD's. Too bad you went all the way to Pleasenton the first time, they are just down the street from you.

In my opinion, the best rebuild in northern california is Ivan's autopalace. I just got my motor rebuilt by him and knew exactly what I was getting. Furthermore Ivan is the fastest mechanic I've ever seen in my life. He built my new motor in 1 day and I dropped my car off to him in the weekend and by monday the car was up and running. Total timeframe my car spent at Ivan's autopalace: 3 days. Give them a call at 408-730-0567

I won't go to Checkpoint anymore, being that they are the above shop that caused the problem. They never seem to have the time, patience, or the desire to car about the customer unless it has to do with a large amount of money. I've got a loong list of issues with them, but I won't get into it..

Ivan's autopalace rebuilt my motor using new rotors, new housings, and all new seals and gaskets for less than that and the car is running very strong.

TTB, I wish he did for all the people I referred to him!!! On a serious note though, I do believe he does quality work or else I wouldn't refer people to him.
I've heard great things about pineapple racing as well. Like the guy that builds motors there really knows his ****. However, since Ivan's autopalace is closer ot me, I just take my car there.

No, I don't work for Checkpoint. Trust me, you wnat to go to Checkpoint. The owner was a Mazda tech trainer for rotoaries in the seventies. If you go down there you will see 4 FDs in the garage. They did my rebuild, transmision and EGR valve.

Well, I'm not saying Checkpoint hasn't been around for a while and can't rebuilt a motor. But Scott seems to be the only one who know's anything about 3rd gens there, Dr Dave is very knowledgeable aout everything but 3rd gens. They've done less than desireable work for me in the past, and caused the current issue that I'm having now. They flushed the coolant and took it around the block a few times to get some bubble out, and they return with running temps as high as 116c (they reached 123c after being shut off!) They believe they didn't cause it, but they just performed the 60k major and everything was fine. Anyways..where's this Ivan's Autoplace?
ivan's autopalace is in sunnyvale. there are two locations to server you. one is just a regular auto shop that's open on sundays. the other is their regular office and has a black FD in mint condition on display. tell him twin turbo bao referred you, maybe i'll get a referral fee

Styjan,
Off topic, are you going to the Apple Hill run this weekend? We've got about 9 FDs and a handfull of FBs and FCs running with us. Toss me an email if you're interested, we're meeting at Starbuck's in Elk Grove off of Luguna (next to In-N-Out.)
