BNR Supercars is probably one of the few places that are trustworthy to rebuild the stockers.

I have got a quote form a machine shop arrow machine shop her in chattannooga tn. they are a friend of my fathers and they are all the time rebuiling turbos. he found the rebuild kit and priced the kit at 300 is this correct or can I get the kit cheaper?

ALso is the ball bearing rebuild kit that much more impressive? will this actually allow the turbos to spool up faster than they already do? I am going to keep the twinms sequintial on a 2 peice 2 mm ported motor! How much does this rebuild kit cost?

I also have a full exhaust (downpipe three inch pipe connecting downpipe to blitz (nurspec) exhaust do I need a computer as long as I dont run and intake and I watch my boost levels?

thanks, joe

Petitt can do it and also reshape the compressor housing outlet for better flow.

Get two rebuild kits from Turbo City $300.00 total and rebuild them yourself. It's easy!

Does any one sell a rebuild kit that changes them to ball bearings ? I would like to know about that , if it is out there , where and how much. My mechanic tried to get Turbo Auto to work with him on this and they said it would cost way to much .

i haven't ever heard of a ball bearing "kit"

I rebuilt mine myself with turbo city rebuild kits. so far so good. I have about 1500-2000 miles @ 12psi with no smoke. Everything went smoothly and the kits appeared to be of sufficient quality, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

The ball bearing "kit" is the upgrade from M2 (Mostly Mazda). It's not something you can do yourself. On a "17-year old student's budget (as you so often post) is quite a lot @ $3k

btw, stop hijacking everyone's threads

i wouldn't really consider the M2 ball bearings a kit.

but anyway, my advice is go BNR for $795 (?), or take chances with the turbo city kits for ~$400 after you pay to have them balanced.

Truth be known ... there are no 'good' places to have the HT-12's rebuilt. Every rebuild shop has had at least a few cases where an HT-12 rebuild did not go well. And almost everyone who has that experience will say that 'so-and-so shop doesn't know what they're doing' or 'they're a bunch of crooks'. If you want a guarantee, buy new. Otherwise, take your chances with a rebuild.

Outside of that, many members have stood beside BNR's work and are very satisfied. Brian is a pretty stand-up guy, from what I've heard.

Hey RedRotor.

In a HT12 rebuild, there are many steps to go through. If you miss one step, they will smoke or fall apart . Over the years I have done lots of study on the HT12. I think that the design is very unique and efficient for turbochargers put on a factory production car.

I disagree on your opinion that no one can rebuild HT12's. I have had smokey turbos, but I learn and solve each problem that occurs, and I make it a point for that mistake not to happen again. I do not discuss any of the issues that occur, that way I don't give any pointers away to other turbo manufacturers. I specialize in HT12/HT18 Remans and upgrades. Every turbocharger that we rebuild/upgrade gets better and better in performace and longevity.

To all of my customers, I appreciate the business and support.

Kewl, man. I've gone through the rebuild pains twice already ... that is, before I got frustrated and bought some new RS/RZ turbos. Yes, I definitely agree that there are many intricacies in rebuilding the HT-12's and, after all the research and depleted funds, it's good to hear encouraging words from an experienced turbo rebuilder himself. I only extend a warning to people trying to go the cheap route ... which usually ends with yet another smoking set of turbos. Perhaps you'll be getting a set of RS/RZ turbos for rebuild in a few years ...
