Rebuild Kit Questions

Hey guys, im tearing my motor down this week and over the past year I have seen numerous threads on different apex seals. I was wondering though if there were any threads analyzing rebuild kits and apex seals. (maybe howard did one like he has for suspension, turbo and meth kits?), if not I would love to hear of any experiences you guys have had with the many offerings available to rotary enthusiasts. Currently I have been eyeing the RA master rebuild kit with either the 2mm classic apex seals or the 3mm seals.

Heard good things about those gaskets, realistically though, for most stuff stay stock as you can unless you are planning some really high boost and high HP. I honestly prefer the pineapple kit, it may not be quite as cheap, but if you haven't found out by now, you get what you pay for.

I just went through the same decision making process you are going through now. My conclusion was just like asianguy. The Pineapple kit uses all oem parts with the exception of the coolant seals and the omission of the oil pan gasket. This is sufficient for most everyone. Really you want oem quality in the seals/gaskets. If you decide to go with aftermarket apex seals most will argue the 3mm seals are not too much more advantageous if not more detrimental. Causing excess wear to the housings. But this could just be a myth as well. Several threads on that.

Personally I went with the Pineapple racing rebuild kit and chose RA super seals. I liked what I read and decided to give em a shot. I have not lit the motor yet so unfortunately I cannot give any real experience with em.

A good tuner is really the best defense against apex seal damage that you could ever have. Also invest in a good AI kit.

Good luck with your build.

Thanks for the help guys, decided to go with all OEM parts, a friend of mine works at mazda so the prices are very generous compared to list price.. Now I just need to track down a power fc + commander!

Arkman, if running RA seals I recommend running premix in addition to the OMP. I've been adding about 10 ounces for a full tank.
