Reasons why your car wont run or start.

I thought this would be a good thread to have and then leave it as a sticky somewhere unless they already have one.(if so feel free to get rid of it. But we can just list off reasons that we all have experienced or know of why a car might run like **** or not start. Because there are a lot of threads about cars not starting and what not and the search isn't that easy to navigate so I thought this would be a good way to point it right out. Other ones liek this woudl be for other issues liek general runnign issues, breaks electrical and what not?

Reasons why your car wont start or run.

1. your engine might be flooded...solution: take the plugs out let it dry, or crank for a few seconds with fuel line unplugged. Put the plugs back try again.

2. MAP sensor vacuum hose might be unplugged or plugged into the wrong place.

3. Green dual solenoid in front of the UIM might be unplugged. (was a massive prob for me)

4. General Vacuum hose leak.

5. Engine is trashed (if so, sorry if it is.)

6. Spark plugs might be bad.

7. engine seals might be screwed. Solution: get someone to replace them for you or get ready to rip that sucker out and do it yourself.

wOw can fix my car?????

You must be a Mr. Good wrench.

Here's some more great tips to help with starting problems & my solutions

1. Make sure your using the correct Key to start your car. (this one stumped me for weeks)

2. Check for a banana in the tail pipe (jokers at work, 2nd time this week)

3. Don't try to restart your car when it's already running (3rd starter this month)

4. Sit in the left seat (the one behind the wheel) unless your in a Jspec car.

5. The clutch pedal is all the way to the left. You can push the center pedal as hard as you can & it still wont start.

I tried this, and I heard a whirring sound, and then there was a flash, and flames erupted from under the hood. Perhaps "unplugging" the fuel line and leaving the EGI fuse in was a bad idea. I am writing from the ICU burn unit...

There ya go, Xeros. Your utter and absolute ignorance of the car you just bought (big surprise) gave one of your fellow club members life-threatening burns over 85% of his body. Oh, this one needs to be archived alright

Where is jimlab when you need him?

That's a healthy attitude. Now if you can just convince your buddy **** to behave the same way, the 3rd Gen Section would be a much safer place

I'm not tryin to get flammed or anything but I figured a lot fo the pros on the forum wouldn't it t be too bad of an idea. A quick trouble shooting list. And your right I'm not as qualified as a rotary shop owner as yourself ,goodfellaFD3S, to write the list. But you are aren't you? Guys like you aren't supposed to be giant flamming asses to every single noob on the forum. Maybe its just cause your balding and no matter how fast you make your 7 to make up for it you'll never be able to catch back up with your hair line man. Most of the time when I meet experienced FD owners like you, (about 3 yeah I know but still) they are a lot more open to peopel question and a lot less harsh. guys like you just like to talk **** becasue they think they are the **** becasue they're car runs 500+hp and that is very impressive I will give you that. And your right you get bragging rights for it especially for openning up a shop. But it doesn't mean you have to be a giant flamming middle aged *** to everyone else does it now? I respect you for what you have done, and from what I have read on your sight. But it still doesn't mean you have to be a huge flamming ***. I'm new to thsi your abso fuckinlutely right. Thats why I ask questiosn almost everyday and I listen and I try what other experienced drivers have suggested. And yeah I have plenty of dumbass posts too, just my style of dimbwitted humor and obvious idiocy becasue I have not had my car that long. I came to this forum thinkig holy **** I have actually found level headed people that aren't foul mouth talking sacks of constant cocky crap but then again I guess every group has its asses doesn't it?

and as for this

1. your engine might be flooded...solution: take the plugs out let it dry, or crank for a few seconds with fuel line unplugged. Put the plugs back try again.

lol yeah it was stupid alright I should have said disconnect the egi/fuel pump fuse

whatever just let this die now seeing as how no one felt it was a good idea.

Nothin personal goodfellafd3s (I know nothing of you and you know nothing of me just sayin whats on my mind and from what I gathered of you on this forum and your website).

Nope, I just don't like it when people post crap. I don't go onto supraforums and start spouting off about something I have no idea about. And you made the post personal by some of your comments. You're lucky that wisconsin is a hike from NJ, because i guarantee you that you would not have the ***** to say any of that to my face. I am done with this thread, and done with you. I pray that Darwinism will take it's true course with you.

Oh, and I am not affiliated with any shop in any way at this point. My comments are my own.

I had intended on leaving this thread alone until I saw this. I offer some advice:

Shut your ******* mouth. The man you speak of is not only a contributor to this forum, and the rotary community, but a contributor to the country. Find his posts about Iraq and the Army and you'll come to realize that you're not insulting a "middle aged, balding man" but you're insulting an Army Captain. Regardless whether or not that means anything to you, I'd take the time to do what you SHOULD have done in school; learn to READ. If you would have done so, I'm sure you would have found the "flaming ***" answering your questions YEARS ago to other new people.
