Rear View mirrow - how to put aftermarket cover on

Hey guys well i got a Mazdaspeed carbon fibre mirror cover, yeah i know, its a bit of a ****, but hell i love Mazdaspeed. Anyway, i cant figure how to seperate the old mirror with the old cover? Has anyone had any experience with this. I took the mirror off and tried a number of ways to get it seperated but had a lot of trouble. Not only did i not get the Mazdaspeed cover on, but it took me another 45minutes to put the mirror back up, its quite tricky plus i dropped the screw down the side of the seat.

Heres a pic of the Mazdaspeed item -

heres the stock mirror

thanks

i dont think you remove the back cover it looks like it just clips on to the back of the mirror.

It does just clip on, but first i need to get it over that mount, the square mount is too big to get through the gap in the cover and there isnt any clips or anything.

You have to purchase the newer rear view mirror from Mazda. The older series mirrors aren't supposed to work with it, the guy you purchased the cover from should have told you. Its a great cover though, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!

you can always modify it to allow just enough room to slide it through the mount post from the back

Install instructions

Hey, got that cover a while back, still have the install instructions scanned into my computer. File is to big to send through this forum, so i have scaled down the important parts and attached.
Any good at Japanese????
The cover has been manufactured for the more recent and updated mirror Mazda put in FD's 95-02. I've got a 95 which has the updated one. The instructions explain that the mirror actually slides out of the bracket that holds it to the windshield, by sticking the tip of a small flathead screwdriver, into the pinch hole releasing the entire setup.
Good luck
If you want the entire document let me have your email and I'll send it

Thanks everyone, very helpful replies. Just got to think where i should hack into it or look for another mirror.

MyBaby - thanks heaps for that, thats going to be very useful. I do speak some Japanese...hehe

If i was to buy a newer mirror, does it just bolt on up to the old mount in the windscreen?

Hey,

i have a different mirror, i think im going to hack into it to make it fit. I looked at some other style carbon covers and they have a cut in the top and you have to bend the cover so the mount goes through the gap.

Wish me luck!

I'd just buy the proper mirror to ensure correct fitment rather than hack up what you have. Wouldn't want that cover coming loose during a high speed run or when ripping through a corner......
