Question rear view mirror fell off. How the hell do I get it back on.

Was driving around and my rear view mirror fell off. I can see the assembly still attached to the window with the two screws in it. At first look, i thought I could slide it right in, but I spent 10 minutes to no avail trying to do this. How the heck do I get i back on. It certainly won't slide right in.

thanks

Would you believe I drove around for an entire year with the rearview mirror wedged between the two flip down visors? (right in front of the dome lights) Just flipped both the visors down, put the mirror there, then flipped them both up. It holds ok. :P

But anyways, It's three pieces. the mirror, the part that goes on the glass, then there is a little metal clip that hooks onto the part that goes on the glass, and that's what you screw the mirror to. (if I recall correctly)

Sorry to bring this one back from the abyss, but I searched and didn't find an answer.

I'm having trouble finding the piece that attaches to the glass, between the glass and the rectangular metal clip as described above. The dealer quoted me $25 for what I assume is the rectangular metal clip and the piece that attaches to the glass, but they're not so sure it's both pieces.

Does anybody know if this piece can be bought separately, and maybe for less elsewhere?

Thanks...
