Rear tie down hooks.

Trailering my new FD home next weekend and am about to order rear tie down hooks and need to know if they use existing bolts on the rear or if i need to acquire them to install them before i load it on the trailer to bring it home.

If i do need them, you guys wouldnt happen to know what size they are by chance?

Im not comfortable strapping the rear down through the wheels since i dont really like having the car being able the move on its suspension while on the trailer.

The suspension was made to soak up bumps, just run the straps through the wheels.

I've been trailering an FD to events that way for 8 years without issue, trips up to 400 miles.

if you go and look at the parts catalog at the dealership it does show the tie down hooks, which were installed at the factory, and removed at the port (or supposed to be removed at the port).

i do own a set of brand new ones (pm me if you want), but i don't own an FD! they bolt to the lower inner quarter panel somewhere, IE if you look up between the muffler and the body you should see some threaded holes for the the tow hooks to attach to.

they hand down kind of midway between the wheel arch and the rear bumper, and i'm sure they are convenient, but they do look really lame.

It is actually better to trailer with the car strapped through the wheel, not to the tiedown hooks. If you don't compress the suspension enough with the tow hooks the car will unload the straps when the trailer hits a bump and then snap tight again when the car and trailer rebound. You can easily break a strap, break the tow hook, or end up with the car moving around a lot on your trailer. Locking the wheels down with good wheel straps (The ones that go over the wheels) is your best bet because the suspension of your Rx can react to bumps without affecting the tension on the straps.

If you really want to use tow hooks make sure that the suspension is compressed enough such that the straps will never go slack. This is much tighter than you would think.
