rear main seal - can someone check this out?

this doesn't seem right. is the rear seal supposed to rotate like that. weird.

That is goofy. Normally they're a pretty press fit in there, I have to lube them up then hammer them in with a rubber mallet. After that they don't want to go ANYWHERE.

Is that a new seal in there?

ill replace it and see what happens. i usually use rtv on the OD and press it in by hand

I don't recall for sure, but when I changed mine a couple of years ago. I used the old seal on top of the new in order to tap it in. It didn't take alot effort, but even after oiling it up, seems like it was too tight to do that.

They're not expensive...your right to replace it.

I replaced the rear main seal about 4 years ago and mine was leaking and was just as loose. It was also 13 years old though. You may want to consider replacing your rear stationary gear o-ring seal as well since you're there.
