rear glass squeaks

in my 93 fd when im driving my rear glass makes noise...almost sounds like a bird chirping...i know its the glass cuz when u push up on it while driving it goes away. i tried to tighten the 2 nuts that attach to the rear hatch but no change...any ideas or suggestions to fix it?

One of my old cars did this and I found it was the struts squeaking against the posts.
I sprayed it down with silicone and it went away.

I seriously doubt is the actual glass mainly because that glass is mounted on a rubber gasket. My money is on the silver strut bar in the hinges like I said.

Sounds like the rear hatch. Mine did the same thing over bumps. Clean the seal around the perimeter and then apply some silicon paste to the seal. Don't need to use a lot so just rub some on the seal.

ok ill give it a try tomorrow. it was just odd that while driving if i had a friend press up on the glass it would stop and as soon as he let go it would start again. i assumed it was something with the glass...

I get a very annoying whistly squeaking noise from my front hood latch (it does not sound like what you would guess a squeaky latch would sound like).
goes away when I pop the hood from interior while driving. you could try that with the rear and if it goes away, there's your answer

I just fixed this issue on my car last year. I moved the rear hatch latch down to make the hatch seal tighter. The problem is with the rubber bumpers that insulate the hatch (at the back below the wing) from the chassis. If the 2 aren't pressed tightly together they will slide on each other and you effectively get "tire chirp" from the rubber.

The downside to this fix is simple but a little annoying. Closing the hatch is almost impossible with the doors and windows closed. With a door open, it's easy to close.

I'm sure you could do something to the 2 contact surfaces to stop them from chirping, but whatever you do is likely to wear off and need refreshing. My solution should be rather permanent.

i get the same annoying squeek sometimes from my read glass area.. i thought it was the plastics. i got new struts so im not sure that could be the issue

Did you try this? I'm having the same problem. Just wanted to see if it worked before I go buy the silicone.

To get rid of my rear noise issue I did 2 things,

1- on the bump stops/ rubber bumpers I applied felt tape to the contact areas of them.

2- for the hatch seal I cleaned the seal with a rag and some general all purpose cleaner. then I applied some silicon paste( a little goes a long way) to my finger tip and spread it along the hatch seal on the BODY side of the vehicle. no on the hatch/ paint surface. put a bit on you finger tip and spread it out, repeat until the complete seal/ contact area is nice and shiny/ lubed. that got rid of the noise for my car.
