rear brake calipers?

hi...i have a 2001 type r and i want to upgrade the rear brakes...my question is if the type r rear brakes will work with the larger type rs/rz rear brake rotors...i pulled this info off of fdnewbies site:

TYPE R (Hardware is the same as US 93-95 brakes)
Tires: 225/50ZR16 (TYPE RB has 225/50R16 92V and the rest is the same as below)
Wheels: 16 X 8 JJ
Brakes:
Front pistons - Leading and Trailing 36.1 mm
Front disk diameter - 294 mm
Front disk thickness - 22 mm
Rear piston - 34.9 mm
Rear disk diameter - 294 mm
Rear disk thickness - 20 mm

TYPE RS/RZ
Tires: F 235/45ZR17, R 255/40ZR17
Wheels: F 17 X 8, R 17 X 8.5
Brakes:
Front pistons - Leading 33.9 mm, Trailing 38.1 mm
Front disk diameter - 314 mm
Front disk thickness - 32 mm
Rear piston - 34.9 mm
Rear disk diameter - 314 mm
Rear disk thickness - 20 mm

can i use the same calipers?...or do i have to upgrade to the rs/rz spec?...would anything else need to change?...thanks

Well the RS/RZ rear brake rotor is larger in diameter so the caliper mount/bracket was revised so that it would fit over the larger rotor. The calipers are identical throughout the model range but the RS/RZ has a larger bracket. Typically they sell both the caliper and caliper mounting bracket together IIRC.

You can buy the bracket to convert, I think RHDjapan and someone else in the US made a statement in one of the threads here, that they had them available.

Mazdaspeed Motorsport also has the conversion bracket to move the caliper out; I do not remember the PN, having triped across it after already going the RS/RZ caliper route. But if you are a member they should be able to dig it out.

The RS/RZ caliper has a cast in longer (radilaly) bracket it is not a separte piece; however as I posted above I believe mazda does make a conversion braket.
