I am not meaning to bash anyone. Ever. But please think about this statement. If the water moving through the radiator is hot, and always hotter than the air surrounding it, then blowing air through the hot core will NOT produce a cooler air to cool the IC. Cool air drawn from under the radiator with help with cooling the water temps slightly but not in the manner radiators are truly designed to work. they need also outside air flowing through them while at speed which cannot happen if air is taking the path of least resistance and simply just skimming over the surface. Not to mention that the HOT air coming through the radiator will not only not be moving fast enough to be forced through the IC, but it will act as a heater heating up the surface of the IC as well as blow into the engine bay for no reason.

Again, no one is trying to say this is a poorly constructed system, just the thought behind the design needed more thought/completion.

ok so this is a quick (read: shitty) sketch up i just drew of what most people consider an "ideal v-mount"

that is to say: one where both the IC & Rad get fresh air, the opening is divided, the fans suck, and both the hood and undertray are vented.

Sure, I have a very recent thread with pics of my vmount build. BUT I in no way claim to be a professional. Just a guy who likes to take on this sort of project. If you would like I can also provide you with my current temps of both intake and water while driving and after the car has sat for a while, restarted and driven to see how fast intake temps cool off.

Knight Sports was the original and the best. Everything else is a knock off. That said, unless you're tracking the car, a big stock mount works perfectly fine for the street. Added hp with some fancy V mount set-up? Zero. My charge temps stay about 20 above ambient regardless of how many times I get on the boost.

Mark, that's enough in this section. Keep it in the DoO.

OMG! Ok this is getting out of hand.

JUSTIN DO NOT POST ANOTHER THING UNDER MY FORUM NAME........

If you wish to post anything sign up and start that way. I will agree with everyone that the setup can have some improvements but all in all it is really sealed. Its not completely done and ofcourse since it is both a first for the owner and the builder they are both over zealous.

The good responses are always nice and the "f u it suks" comments are not needed. But keep the comments coming so that he can improve on his work.

If anything else is posted not by me i will ask them to be removed.

Wow don’t even know what to say, everyone has their own opinions that’s all good. I can take the good the bad and the ugly that’s what I expect on the forums. When I use the word god-like that’s how I describe the fab work that was done in under a week with a very low budget. iv'e seen a lot of vmounts that look like **** and I am very happy with mine and wanted to post some pics. So yeah opinions that help the set up are welcome and those who hate are welcome as well. All good just another day

Guys, I've already told Mark to knock it off. That doesn't mean everyone else continues.

This is the only useful statement in this whole thread. Which should be taken into consideration. The fabrication is nicely done, but if you don't seal the center gap, all that other ducting is just for looks.. air gets funnel'd and escape right through the center.

people that don't own a vmount and talking trash about being race only, you're just ignorant. do some more research.

OP, decent look. You'll def want to close the gap though (unless the pic of the radiator, with like 2-3 inches of empty space, was taken prior to installing the IC core). And also, if you have re-wired the fans to blow through the rad (as in, from the ground up) then you've wasted your time. You need the fans spinning in a direction to suck the hot air towards the ground, and under the car...

My VMIC is about the same size, keeps AIT's about 10 degrees above ambient temp at 17-18psi on BNR's, before AI.

Guys, there are many other things i'd rather be doing than cleaning up this debacle of a thread. Please keep it constructive and leave the religious garbage in the lounge or doo. Otherwise the ban hammer will come crashing down. Thanks

So, if you build a setup that is completely flawed and potentially worse that the standard stock mount it replaced, you'd prefer not to hear about it?

The feedback on this thread was technically very good. With the huge gap, this setup was more like a double-l mount than a v-mount, completely missing the point of the design. The radiator fan arrangement was broken. Letting these go without comment would have been stupid.

There may be car boards out there somewhere where people post "Awesome!! Thanks for sharing!!!" no matter what is posted, but I have yet to come across one.

You should not be afraid to post pics. Other than one or two the rest all had constructive criticism. Really only two suggestions are made and there is no need to reitterate them again. Everything else looks great. And no matter what you do someone will always try and find something wrong with it. Just take the bad with the good and analyze whether it is necessary to make a change, or leave it alone. Personally I really like to see pics of what ppl do.

Wow. So I may be the only ******* in this thread, but when it was toted as being "god-like" I expected to see some perfectly OCD craftsmanship. That is why I said it looks like ****. God-Like triggered my "Oh great, here's another I-Have-A-Bigger-Dick" Braggart. I think the welds on the IC look very nice, but the tolerances on the duct work are sub-par, even to a moderately experienced fabricator. My apologies for the blunt attitude about it, but even really snazzy is a bit pumped up.

But like I said, Good job on actually ducting and good job on the IC welds.

Things to improve: Gap between the rad and IC, and tighten up the duct work to itself.

Glad to see people doing fab work on their own vehicles though. That is what will keep good examples of these vehicles on the road. Hope you are willing to take some constructive criticism and make it better as you go or really make a godlike setup on your next go-around.

Keep up the progress, experience only makes you better and mindset will determine how much you gain from that experience.

Honestly, If I post pics of my work, I expect honest opinions. And those opinions that have good points... will probably convince me to repair/improve/etc. on whatever they see wrong. I doubt I will post "God-like" anywhere though.

Its not always about charge temps here.....as he said because he is streeting the car... having a v-mount will most likely lower engine temps in general because the FMIC will no longer be blocking his radiator. There area also other perks to having a v mount set up.. such as spool time depending on length of pipeing etc.. so everyone should stop hating on this guys set up. Its good...just fix the ducting..

haters haters haters.. haha

While you seem to have a good understanding of the basic principals of intercooling and such..... You have missed a major issue with his design. Fans blowing upward? Not to mention the huge gap between the two cores.

+1, This is absolutely correct. The V-mount seems to do everything right and has no downside that I'm aware of (or experienced). It transforms the car and it's the way the car should been designed and produced to begin with--the FD would likely have a much different reputation had it been.

It's all about pressure balance and airflow across the cooling cores. And the V-mount wins hands down because of this.

Want a cooler engine compartment? Rock stable engine temps? A/C that really works? Short/compact IC integration? More efficient/effective use of the IC? Cold air intake? You get all of this with a V-mount....
