1 cubic centimeter of air = 1.239 milligrams @ 20C, 1 atmosphere

453,600 milligrams = 1 lb.

Therefore, 1 US Gallon of air = 0.01 lb.

I weighed my '95 PEP metal sunroof... 9.2 lbs. with the interior trim panel.

I sincerely doubt that the tracks and motor weighs in excess of 15 lbs. because there's not much to it. Let's say 20-25 lbs. tops for a metal sunroof.

Car and Driver lists interior volume as 50 cu. ft. for the "front" (not sure how they calculated that or what it includes) and 17 cu. ft. of cargo space.

http://caranddriver.radicalmedia.com...Rx7_specs.html

By comparison, they list the '95 Corvette as 48/13. Hard to believe the FD3S RX-7 has more interior space than the C4 Corvette, isn't it?

I would guess that the 9.2 lb sunroof weighs very close to the same as the area where there is no sunroof in the base/R model. Probably not more than a pound or two different. My estimate of the tracks & motor is 10 lbs. If I am correct (of course I am), the sunroof only adds about 12 lbs.

It must be that R1 strut bar that is so heavy.

I haven't weighed a FD sunroof assy although I have weighed a FC sunroof assy including the sunroof panel itself. It was 33lb total. I figured it was pretty much fair to weigh the sunroof panel itself after I noticed the reinforcement in the roof.

I've got a FD sunroof assy, also. I'm pretty sure it weighs more than 20lbs.

Also on the 94 Touring ONLY that roof panel is GLASS which is much thicker and heavier than the steel flat roof.

I've got a whole sunroof assy. in my carage... i'll try and weigh it.... the actual metal panel is negligible, since the roof would cover the same span.

Just a a couple weeks ago i drove my Base model FD to work. At work we have a certified scale. Anyways, with 1/4 tank fo fuel, no spare tire, jack, etc. Full exhaust, m2 intake, efini y-pipe, m2 medium style IC, turbo jeff battery tray, full non-seq , without me in the car it weighted in at 2680. Next time I take it to work, I'll get a printout of it. Because I know there will be peole who don't beleive me CJ

We were definetly surprised at the 120lb weight difference. Since I made a mistake with the weight of gas the actual difference was 116lbs.

Figure the 94 Touring was about as heavy as an FD can get.

It has dual oil coolers, R1 strut brace, R1 seats in addition to the stock Touring stuff AND the pass side airbag not on the 93 R1. Read again and you'll see the R1 has cruise, and yes it is an R1, I added it.

So 40-50lb extra for the sunroof is probably reasonable. 5-10lb for the airbag. Add in rear wiper, rear wiper tank and washer, larger radiator (holds more water).

I also thought it was interesting that the 93 R1 and 94 R2 were pretty close. One was modded the other was almost stock.
That sounds about right.

I sat in a '99 C5 at an auction and was very surprised at how much it felt like an FD; everything's real close and it fit's like a glove. But driving it you could tell it was so much heaver then the 7. The rear cargo space did look smaller.

The weights in this thread tell it, options definitely add up.
Someone said they thought both R1 and Touring had the same amount of sound deadening material. I read somewhere that was one of the was the R1/2 was lighter, because of the absence of this stuff, among many other things. Anybody care to comment?... Do all 7's have it?

Well, you guys got me curious. I took my car and weighed it today. It came in at exactly 2800 lbs. 1/4 tank of gas, and the mods in my sig. The extra stereo speakers, and the base speakers in the back box probably added 30 lbs.

I tipped the scales at 2760 with 3/4 tank and without me in the car. 2895 with me in it. This was measured at the scale at Thunder Valley Raceway Park and it says I'm 135 which is about right on.

my 93R1 weighed it at 2660 with a little under a 1/4 tank of gas, T78, full exhaust, no spare, 4 point roll bar, kirkey aluminum racing seats (very light), stock battery, A/C, P/S, etc. and stock wheels not the heavy 19's in the picture below.

I figured. I've had a few post battles about whether or not we could be competitive in SM2. He's got what I want to put on my car ... big, fat, nasty wheels with Hoosiers. Ah .. wishful thinking.
