Is it reaaalllyyy necessary to dyno the car after installing new ECU???

OK...my mods are listed below....just put in the apexi pfc and its running great....still plan to put the HKS downpipe on over the winter.....

question is: I keep hearing of engines being blown during dyno runs and i'm just wondering if the original maps that come with the apexi PFC are close enough to run the car safely, while having some fun runs and not risk the stress of a dyno run....

What are your thoughts guys...........

thanks for your comments

Dave

the PFC comes setup for your mods... you shouldn't need to dyno.

Check out the pic attached in this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/vforums/show...threadid=22214
If you can read it, it says that very thing - that it comes setup for what you got.

I'm having mine tuned on the dyno on Friday. If my engine blows I'll let you know. If it doesn't I think I'll feel better having had it tuned.

If you blow your motor on the dyno then your tuning is pretty far off. The dyno does not induce the load that the street does. Not only is there no wind resistance, but you also are never going to go up a hill on a dyno.

Dyno is for fine tuning and getting shifting points. Most tuning should be done on the street, especially since it is cheaper

Why wait to put that downpipe in? Do it ASAP, your engine will love you for it.

Just gotta find the time.....probably in the next few weeks before my garage gets too cold.....

By the way I notice the apexi is setup to run with "both converters in place".....This sounds like once i put the downpipe in i may be at risk for running a little lean....Am i thinkin' right on that one???
