Re: Registered FD#'s per state

well im not done discussing it-
This number actually seems high, just as a percentage of the number orginally sold.
If the info below I found online is correct then about 2/3 of the cars sold are still on the road 10+ years later. Given the attrition we see on this board I just expected it to be a lot lot lower.

>According to Mazda, a little less than 10,000 '93 models and 4000 '94 models were >sold in the U.S. I don't have numbers for the 1995 models, but I believe that figure >to be in the low hundreds.

Yeah, it's good to see that those numbers are so high though...i just wish there were more sightings around my area.

Also, lucky to have one of the 120 '94's in my state.

Are you saying the number seems higher than you thought it would be, or is high meaning its not very accurate?

The number seems high compared to what? Compared to the 3,500 estimate that was floated around the forum for years? The 9,796 number was a snapshot as of 10/01/05. I dont see any reason why that number is too high to be considered legit. For a much higher cost, we could have narrowed the scope all the way to zip code level or even down to the individual, and there has to be a physical record of each FD being registered to be counted.

I think there's a common misconception that most people who own FD's also post on this board. When we say the number is "high" we are forgetting about people who just have it stored in their garage, dont take it out much, and dont post here.

that and i think sometimes people forget that the fd is an expensive sports car. Although we have seen alot of them wrecked from agressive driving I think their are a ton more on the other side that have been well taken care of and babied. Everyone hears about a wrecked one on the board because its big news.

Yeah its typically "Dude I just wrecked my FD, Fawk!" instead of "Dude, I just parked in the garage!"

It is like everything, the negative is shouted on the hilltops and the positive is largely silent. My FD is currently not registered since I am out of the country for a couple of years. It will be registered once I am back.
