CA RE-installled Twin turbos

Well were back at it.
I took twins off and did a few repairs new coolant and fan swiitch only worked on the turbo side
*removed egi and cranked a few times didnt want car starting without some oil in the turbos
it "started" smoked, smelled like gas extremely rough idle before it dies.
I started it up a few times thinking it might somehow be a bit flooded

I took my time puttig everthing back together, to try and avoid something like this, buuut she aint happy
i checked for fowled plugs but looked fine to me
any ideas maybe i missed something

I dont wanna tear it back down if I dont have to(was only fun the first time)

Vacuum line to MAP sensor come off?

There's nothing on the turbo side of the engine that can cause the car to run funny. The only possibility over there would be a vacuum leak that would give you a high idle.

Also with it running like that in the clip and it just dying it may have flooded. Hopefully it will cooperate when you try and start it again. May want to get a jump pack, in that video the car was cranking slower than normal too.

The MAP was my first thought too but that checks out.
made sure o2 was connected.

I dont think exhaust leak can Cause this but hasnt run long enough to check for any...unless it can

Idk how it flooded if i already pulled egi
ill try again re check/clean spark plugs

(I did use a battery pack, but by then it was running out)

Only worked on this side

Welp pretty sure i have exhaust leak somewhere.
i found on the floor white residue as well as what looked like oil but i think might be carbon?

Still smokes a lot and smells like gas

Tried to see if AWS would help

Have you also tried running it with the intake ductwork properly connected?

Theres liquid in the exhaust housing to the downpipe
and it smells like gas.
Possible one rotor was not firing.
I wonder if this goes back to my tps🤔

That could be your issue. Try putting a cap of oil into the housings to restore compression on that rotor. You can either remove the UIM and drop some oil in that way, or you can remove your leading spark plugs and try to squirt oil in.
You can check the plugs for which smells like fuel then add the oil to that housing.

Just finished tearing down. Gas and lots of it.
i turned the engine by hand and mists of what im pretty sure is gas come out(still got compression a relief there at least.

Cranking engine with egi out seems like it didnt do what it was supposed to. Instead it flooded the car pretty bad

If you have THAT much gas you either have an injector that's stuck open and dumping gas in or some other fuel leak. Not sure how that happened in the process of swapping the turbos out.

Yea i dont know how it happened but i guess it did.
the more i fix the more issues(rx7 am i right)
But not surprised since it sat for a good 8-10 years prior

Could i add oil directly into turbos with a hose? So i dont have to pre crank it?

I still want to start it but If it continues to run badly that then i guess i will have to teardown to the injectors(does not sound fun) But ill clean things up while im there

First off, that is the BLACKEST exhaust port I have ever seen. Normally they are a tan color. Does the other port look the same?

Obviously there is a puddle of liquid in that rotor housing, are you certain it's gas? Wondering if you could have a failed oil seal or something.

When you swapped out the turbos what were you trying to fix?

(BTW I watched it without sound at work, don't know if there's other clues if I heard the sound)

As far as pre-oiling the turbos, there's no reason to try and hook up a tube of oil or anything weird. Just install them, pull the EGI fuse under the hood, and crank for 5-10 seconds until you see oil pressure register on the gauge on the dash. That's all there is to it.

If you think you have a fuel system leak you can run the fuel pump to test for leaks. Under the diagnostic box under the hood on the driver's side there will be an F/P terminal and a GND terminal. Jumper them with a wire and turn the key to On. The fuel pump will run continuously without having to have the engine running. Easy way to find leaks.

Yea the ports didnt look so good to me either.
theyre both pretty much like that i need to do something to clear that.

The liquid smelled like gas and did not feel like oil. Prior to this car only smoked on start up then cleared
I just use standard 91

turbos came off because of coolant leak would leak after shut off
(video just has background and compression noises)

I think egi and cranking is what led to it flooding but ill try again
There doesnt seem to be any leaks elswhere just dumping it into the engine. But ill double check.
(i need to install other oil pressure sensor because the one on doesnt show while cranking and sometimes it stops working)

EGI out and cranking shouldn't flood the engine. If it did, something else is wrong. That fuse should cutoff the injectors and the fuel pump AFAIK. You may need to use the same approach to blow all the gas/liquid out of the chambers anyways.

Have you checked your coolant level since discovering all of the liquid? If you swish water around in the combustion chamber I am sure it would develop a gas-ish smell.

Not to point out the obvious, but once you get the liquid out you might want to do a compression test on it if you haven't lately.

Dorito: yea i know i gotta do it again. I hope it doesnt flood.dale could be right about my injectors

i did not think about it being coolant. I couldnt check anyways. At that point i dropped some coolant taking off the turbos

I have been wanting to do a compression test.
Prior to this it did start up hot or cold without issues
And the last test i did was 100< + all six sides

Mine did exactly this and it was the injector O-rings. If you really want to be lazy, remove the upper manifold just enough to see down the runners and jumper the fuel pump.

Rxspeed-really? I dont see how orings fail and dump gas in, but i dont know enough so i will take your word on that
Its not lazy, I just dont wanna take take it appart further so i can drive it to the bodyshop for paint. If it persists then ill do it

Mine was install error, but they can also dry out from non-use.
On side feed injectors, the lower O-ring is the only seal between fuel flow and the manifold.
The check I suggested will only take a few minutes. Full effort would require pulling the injectors, but this is a quick confirmation of the symptom.

So installed everthing again probably even better this time. Still the same thing.
I went to check spark plugs, they felt cold even tho the car was on for a good 20-30 seconds
Shouldnt they be warm or hot? or maybe wasnt on long enough.

I dont see how anything on the turbo side could lead to coils not firing. I have one of those testers which i need to try when i get someone else to to help

It had to have been flooded like a lot. If you saw the previous video you could see how much gas was in there

I might have an issue where ot still floods regardless of pulling the egi fuse that ill have to adress later

You may have a slowly dripping injector. If you start the car every day it's fine, but if it's down for a week or more (like when doing the turbos) it drips enough to badly flood the engine. Fouled plugs can take a little bit to clear up when flooded.

Long term you may want to send the injectors out for service.
