BTW, my Hellas (2 x 90mm high beam, 2 x 90mm low beam, and H9 bulb harness adapters) are for sale if anyone's interested. Paid $260, sell for $220 shipped.

I'm going to try something a little bit different.

The Hellas are good bulbs and they provide better projection than the IPFs provided with the RE kit. I don't exactly remember what the OE lights projected like anymore, but I am confident that this is better. I hope to have some projection pics up soon, but it won't be until next weekend.

If I had it all to do over, I would not install the RE kit. Maybe the new one is much better, or maybe they simply changed bulbs like I did, but beware that getting a good spread of light means more than just good bulbs & lenses. The RE fixture sets the lights lower and further back than the OE, making it more difficult to project the entire beam forward onto the road.

I am going to stick with this set up for a while, initially, the projection seems very good. BUT, if I want/need further improvement, the next step would likely be to hack into the fiberglass form that RE provided and try to move the bulbs forward by about 1-2". That is a big PITA.

Thanks for the pictures, mmaragos.

FYI, it looks like my Hella lights have been sold, thanks.

Very nice! But are these true HIDS or do you still need to get bulbs or what have you?

Those aren't HID lights, nor is there a kit available for the H9 bulb used by the Hella lights, unfortunately.

Then what's so good about these Hellas that make them different than the stock ones that come with the sleek kits?

They're DOT legal and they have actual low and high beam patterns.

Have you had any problems with electrical overload?

No problems at all. I am still having trouble getting them adjusted correctly. Some of it has to do with the way the RE pod fits in there. That combined with the fact that I cut the RE mounts to crap doesn't make it an easy task.

I WOULD NOT recommend this conversion to anyone. Too much tweaking for not enough gain in performance.

I WOULD NOT recommend the RE conversion (from stock lights) to anyone.

I WOULD recommend that anyone considering a light conversion at this point wait until jimlab has done some more research and has an idea on paper. From all the other work I have seen him do, I am confident that it will be worth the wait to check it out.

What I'd like to have is the twin-lights with the pop-ups like the Knight Sports kit. Could the Hella's be used to make a kit like that, if it could be done for under... say $500?
