Question re-amamiya ECU questions.

I've done some searching the last few days and haven't really found much info. So I was wondering if some of you could point me in the right direction or just simply fill in the holes.

So far from what I've found for the 8-bit ecu's re-amamiya has 3 versions. Type-A, B, and C.

My question is what are the modifications for each. Originally I thought I was looking for a type-c ecu. However I've only found that this "full race" ecu is a single setup ecu. And not setup to run with the stock twins.

Idealy I'm wanting to run either the stock twins or the 99 twins at around 15 psi. Full intake and completely open exhaust (ie downpipe, midpipe, and open muffler).

So again any info I would really appreciate it, I've looked and for some reason I can't find it. Perhaps I'm just not using the right "key words".

Thanks!

Any reason why you want an RE-Amemiya ECU? It's likely very similar in potential to a Pettit or M2 ECU.

You can try e-mailing RE-Amemiya and asking. Many times the Japanese vendors will try and e-mail you back with an English response. Be clear and use simple English.

You could also look into going with a PowerFC. I considered a chipped ECU at first, but you're still stuck with the 3000 RPM hesitation and no tuneability. PFC's have come down in price - they're being sold now with the Commander for free. I got mine for around $800 - that's hard to beat.

Well I'm not too interested in tuning. The re's react very similar to the 16-bit ecu's faster responce's and such.

I'm sure they are similar to the others.. but for now I'm just doing my home work.. trying to see whats what. Only problem is I can't seem to find the info since it's not in english. =)

Yeah I emailed them just before posting. Can't wait to hear from them if they do actually reply.

Thanks for the info though!

If there is info listed on the web about the ECU, run it through a translater. If you have a link to the info, post it and I'll run it through a translater. That may at least give you some info.

Yeah I don't have a link.. other then re's site.. but I've tried to navigate through it.. they seemed to have done an update within the past 6 months. Prior to that you could find all sorts of goodies.... not anymore though. =(

I doubt the ECU is more like the 16-bit ECU's. Every chipped ECU I've seen from Japan was simply an original ECU with a daughterboard and new ROM added. You'll get safe fuel maps and all that good stuff, but you'll still have the 3000 RPM hesitation, etc.

Yeah, I do wish RE-Amemiya will get their catalog back up!

Why don't you just get a used Pettit/M2 ecu from the US? They are proven to work, you know what you're getting, you don't have to brush up on your Japanese, and they are almost certainly cheaper.

Sorry Dale,

But there is no real evidence that says the 3000 RPM hesistion is solely the ECU. Many people like myself, have rechipped stock ECU's and no hesistation.

Interesting - I thought it was still a factor. Might be that it was tuned out when the chip was created. Good to know!

IMO, it really has nothing to do with the ECU per say except that it can be tuned out using a programmable ECU (like the PFC). I didn't switch to a Pettit ECU until around 57k miles. I bought the car at a little under 40k and it never had the hesitation befor the Pettit ECU.
