I did the same type of ducting using flexible plastic/metal coil intake ducting that I bought from Kragen($10) I had enough to run two ducts; one from the oil cooler spot and one from next to the left fog light. I tried that ducting material that you have in your pic and had bad luck with it. It just pulled apart. BTW, I saw your post of the custome heat shield that you made. AWESOME.

Thats a pretty good invention but i have a question. What about the cooling for the brake? Now theres absolutely no air cooling the brake on that side?

on my 94, there was a plastic piece blocking the entire hole. definitely no brake cooling going on there.

Yeah thats true. I had that thing covering the hole too. But i was just wondering if it has any long term effect on the brakes.

well, the entire thing was blocked before, so there was no air flow in there anyway, and i think ur confused, the brake air cooling flow comes from ducts in teh r1 spoiler lip

do you have any meshing to prevent debris from flying into the engine area?

no, but its a good idea.... the tube does turn upward so at least gravity helps keep some crap from making it to the filters

thought i'd dig this thread up and say i did this mod, probably slightly different path on the ducting but that would be the only difference.

and it works great. at any speed, even as low as like 15mph, the temp around my filters rapidly drops toward the outside temp. i have two radio shack temp sensors in there to measure it, and the one closer to the end of the duct reads consistently lower than the one just a few inches away.

one question if damian is around or anyone knows:
best way to mount to the hole in the spoiler? right now i've got it duct taped but its kinda ugly....

I used zip ties. I drilled two small holes at the back of the bumper to run them through.

damn, yeah i need that cap...

here is what i'm using to measure temps

http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=63%2D1035

its cheap but shows temp where the remote sensor is up to 70C and also shows the temp for where the main unit is. $20.

i think damian had it and his isn't an R1. i think my pos just lost it along the way somewhere...

though it is kinda unnecessary on non R1 models...

Very creative

I thought about that but never followed through with it. I was going to buy that stuff they use on race car windows for the drivers to get air, but I was gunna drill a hole instead of going underneath. I found some mounting plates with a short tube to mount the flexible hose on both sides and clamp them on. I wanted it to be strong at high speeds. I've even thought about using silicone hose but it was too expensive.
