Radio (antenna) wire location
Here's the background deal
I have a 94 Pep with non bose radio and cd player rear speakers in the bin area etc. Since we replaced the engine I have not been getting any FM radio. AM comes in fine because I guess you don't need much to get that. My cd player also works and everything powers on. Just cant locate any fm stations and when I turn the radio full blast on a station I can hardly hardly hear anything.
So today I got annoyed enough to take everything out and see if I can't fix it. I already bought another stock headunit from another 7 to try out but I think I may have found the problem.
Check out this picture and also where does this antenna wire lead to? Is it possible to have screwed it up while taking out the engine or moving the transmission up and down? In the picture where does that spare wire go if anywhere? Is that solder that is on there stock or was it already replaired once and it fell off??
Thanks fellas for any suggestions hope I can get this back in tomorrow you don't know how many times I reached to turn the radio on today within a 15 min drive only to have my hand inside the dash haha.
Thanks again for looking

I'm pretty sure the FM antennae wire runs to the rear glass and is tied to the rear harness or interior harness so taking the engine out would not effect it.
Check the upper passenger corner portion of the rear hatch and make sure the antennae wire is connected. You may have to remove the hatch paneling to properly see it.

those are shielded wires...the third wire is probably EMI GND shielding, it looks hacked as fawk.
"try" to solder that lead on to the area that already has solder on the two shields, then tape...it might get your stations back, but most likely will fail again. could be years...could be during the install?!?!?!
at least try to look at a picture from another person's antenna...you might decide to buy a new/used one.

Ok I just looked closely and I can see where the wire broke off on the solder so we were right it does go there. However I disagree with you. When I solder this on with flux it will never come off.
Another idea is that maybe this wire came off when I was removing to inspect the radio. It is still something else if that's the case. I will report back if this doesnt fix it.

The antenna connection is extremely short (i.e., unless disconnected beforehand, you cannot pull the head unit out without ripping off some or all of the the wires from the connector itself). Attached is a PIC of where the connector links up to the stock head unit.

Alright...Now I have a question. Can someone explain the function for each of the three antenna wires? They include, one red (shielded), one grey (shielded), and one additional grey wire (non-shielded running between the other two).
I removed the stock plastic harness (as seen in the first picture in this thread) and would like to know how I should connect the wires to support an adapter for the new head unit I bought (second picture).

Yes, I WILL be bringing this back from the dead!
Took out my Bose head unit today and discovered the exact same antenna connection as this poster had. A red and gray shielded, and a gray just hanging like a man....
I don't believe it ever went to anything in this system as when I put everything back in and together, it all works.
Originally had a bad display on the CD unit, but switched out the display panel with another one and works now.
Curious, though, can anyone verify this hanging appendage as useless???
