Radiator Coolant.....

Ok, i am new to the rotary game.... and at first i was told NEVER to use water in my radiator, then a "rotary" mecahnic, who turned out to be a f*ckin idiot , told me that i could use water, only reason they tell u not to is because it could freeze in the winter. But then again, i was thinkin...water bolis at like 105 degrees or sumthing like that, and i know that like most coolants are 250+.
My main problem is, after my car runs hard, all the water starts to boil and boils out of the tank, leaving me with a beeping add coolant light.....also, i dont think my fans are kicking in. I know tonite, i turned my key to right before the car actually cranks, and my fans ran, but, i dont think they actually run when the car is running, and thats also why it might start to boil. as long as i have water/coolant in my tank, my temp stays at about 45% on the stock temp gague. so i dont know, i am thinking aobut hookin up a manual fan control, so i can turn it on and off as i please. Well, thanx in advance for the help guys!

Pure water in your cooling system will not boil at 105 degrees because it is under pressure. It should have a similar boiling point as a 50/50 mix I believe.

never thought about that.... but still, would a coolant resist boiling better???

Ok I just had some radiator cleaner in my car which was about 1 Liter if that, everything else was pure water. I kept my temps below 95ēC with the fan switch and I didn't notice anything. You might have a small leak, or your coolant seals might be shot and it is boiling out of the tank. If its pure water why dont you just drain the system and pour in some coolant? Drain plug on the block is in between the two housings by the spark plugs, right at the bottom of the block. With the radiator there is a hole for the drain screw in the scuff gard, kinda hard to miss. If you dont have pure water in there then I would watch out for your coolant seals, they might be going on you.

First of all, water boils at 212 F, 100 C. (damn, our education system really does suck)

Adding coolant will only raise the boiling point of the mixture if it has a higher boiling point than water. The main purpose of coolant is to prevent freezing and to lubricate and protect the cooling system parts. The main point of pressurizing the cooling system is to raise the boiling point. Perhaps your radiator cap is bad. Also, water should be flowing into your overflow tank at this point. Is it?

For running your FD in a moderate temperature range (no single digit temps), you should be using an approximate 25/75 coolant/water mix. Don't forget to use distilled water. NEVER use tap water.

Get this fixed before you drive it if possible. It's not worth the risk. Also, you should run the fans after you turn the car off and open the hood. You can run the fans by performing the "fan mod" or by simply turning the key to the on position. If the car is too warm, the fans will come on for several minutes to cool things down.
