rad. fan wired on all the time, good/bad?

I have wired my coolent fan on whenever my key is at on position, or whenever the car is running. Now, the temp is always around 83 or so showing on the PFC. Now correct me if I am wrong, but having the fan on all the time keeps the temp. at a nice and cool range even when I am sitting in traffic. Now I have heard that it is a bad idea because my thermostat never opens to let the coolent to the radiator because the temp never gets hot enough. Can anybody give opinions on this? What is so bad because my car runs cooler? The weather is getting much cooler now, maybe I should wired a switch to manually turn it on and off?

I would have to say bad, it puts to much of a load on the car and you will have to adjust the ideal up to compensate the extra load.

Bad, it's going to tax your charging and electrical system. Your car will also take longer to warm up and may not reach optimal running temperature.

Not bad just unnecessary. The coolant thermostat keeps the motor at 180f. Even if there was ice water in the radiator the thermostat has to open a little to reject the heat in the engine. The more the fans run the sooner they'll wear out and to a lesser degree the alternator. A much better idea is the FC thermoswitch, or turning down the fan settings with a datalogit.

At 180 degrees, the stock ECU will not allow the car to run to its full potential. Best to let the car get a little warmer (190+) to get maximum performance.

Get or borrow a datalogit...then you can avoid having rigged up fans or fan switches.....you can set the fans to turn on whenever you want.

And YES, running them all the time is unnecessary.

Tyler, maybe you can clear this up for me- If you have a Datalogit (which I do), doesn't that pretty much make the fan mod obsolete?

I run my fans 24/7 when I drive but its due to my set up FMIC single turbo. I sealed the IC and rad well enough that it sucks **** off the road when the fans are on.

If your car is running correct you shouldnt have to do that with a SMIC.
