Question Rack Solenoids DIFFERENT???

I've searched the archives and don't find anyone posting with this question: Upon doing my vacuum hose job, I find that my first and last solenoid on the rack are different from what is shown on the vac hose chart and FSM.

The last solenoid, "G" (Double Throttle Control Solenoid) closest to the waterpump, has two ports- one port on the left and a vertical port on the right side. The vac hose chart shows a solenoid with three ports - one on the left, one horizontal on the right and a vertical port on the right.

The first solenoid, "A" (Pressure Regulator Control Solenoid) closest to the clutch, has only two ports also- one port on the left and a vertical port on the right. The vac hose chart shows a solenoid with three ports- one on the left, one verical port on the right and another horizontal port on the right, which is a 'vent'.

Did anyone else encounter having different solenoids than what is shown on the vac hose chart?

Do you think a former owner/mechanic may have messed with this and put in the wrong solenoids?

The car needed turbos and was running rough upon purchase. I decided to replace all the vacuum hoses and just discovered this potential problem.
Your thoughts are much appreciated.

There really is only one kind of solenoid that clips into the rack. The only difference is that some have the filter basket snapped onto a different nipple. Feel free to pull that filter basket off of one solenoid and snap it onto another as you feel necessary to make things per the diagram.

I'm not looking at the diagram atm to confirm, but I think the DT solenoid runs one nipple thru a short length of hose to a separate filter basket. If the car has a filter basket directly attached to the nipple that works equally well.

Yes, the DT solenoid has a length of tubing terminating into a filter. But, on the other side of the solenoid, mine only has a straight out outlet and doesn't have an outlet running vertical. The other rack solenoids have the double outlet on the right side of the solenoid as per the diagram and pics I got off of some "How-To" sites.

Bottom line is that these two solenoids mentioned in my first post only have two outlets instead of three outlets. Ray Crowe of Malloy Mazda said it soulds like I don't have the correct solenoids so I've ordered two replacements.

I just wondered if others in the forum have encountered this issue before.

thanks for your response Dave.

Yeah you must have the wrong solenoid. The DT is a 3 way solenoid like all the others on the rack with an A,B,and C port.

What kind of hoses are you using, are you using any tie straps/clips to secure the hoses to the nipple and how long did it take you to replace all hoses?

Well, the solenoids that I was referring to turned out to be 'broken' off. Someone must have previously worked on the car, broke them and didn't bother to replace them. I never figured on that being the case. Once I got them out, I could see where it was cleanly broken.

thanks for all the replies.

I am using the hosetechniques.com kit. Seems many people are using it. Only thing I don't like is that you have to be careful not to nick them or they could spit/fail down the road. I am using the zip ties to secure everything. You don't want to do a vacuum job again if you can help it,...in my opinion.

Thanks again for the replies.
