RA adapter installed but it has a gap?

Hi guys I managed to get this damn adapter on with the twins but now it is in and all bolted in but the adapter plate doesnt cover the whole area and left a tiny gap in the area in the diagram and I am curious if it matters since the area with the o-ring is sealed. Is this just an open area with no purpose to be closed? Thanks,

-Chance
