Hey guys. Would anyone know who makes an adapter to use a Toyota R154 Transmission? I know in the old days Rotoworx made one, but I believe they are long gone. In their new products thead, rotary works shows pictures of their R514 adapter, but after a week of phone calls, emails, and PMs I havent heard a response from them. Just wondering if anyone else had ones available, as my searching didnt come up with anything. Thanks

Thanks for the link. Maybe I missed it, but is there one for the r series Toyota transmissions? I just saw it for the w series.

 

i've heard tons of people complain about R154 shift quality. Most are going with Z33 transmissions nowadays they are durable and smooth but i have no idea if there are adapters yet

 

Ive heard good things over at supraforums about R154 rebuilds from marlin crawler. Which is what I would do if I went that route. Honestly Id love to go with a V160 Getrag out of the MKIV, but I cant seem to find a company with an adapter for that either, though I know its been done. Its been frustrating either way over the past couple of weeks. I bet Ive called over half a dozen shops, left voicemails, emails, etc.. inquiring about tranmissions and adapters and rebuilds, and no one ever calls back or replies. Who knew it was so hard to give people your money..

Will the v160 physically fit without tunnel modifications? I wouldn't mind going that route instead of the t56 in the future as I continue to build the car.

Have never seen a swap in person, but from the pics posted that Ive seen with the V160, yes it fits without modification.

 

I'm using an R154 in my 2JZ swap...it's the "norm" for most 2JZ swappers out there, mainly just for the cost difference in comparison to the V160 "Getrag" 6-speed, and it's ~$3,000+ price. lol

 

In reference to the comments above about no one wanting to take money and sell anything:

Not speaking whatsoever about any shop in particular, in fact I am referring to past local shops, but here is the problem with "speed shops" or speed parts shops in general: They are operated by younger individuals that have the product knowledge, but no customer interaction experience or understanding of business relations whatsoever. However, the "older" crowd of individuals that do possess good, old fashioned manners and business sense, don't have the same knowledge of these cars, or other cars like them, and therefore don't operate these businesses. Catch 22 it seems.

Seeing that were discussing r154, can someone elaborate in regards to using either a series 4/5 or series 6 bellhousing? and whether you can use a push or pull style clutch? I see guys overseas using both but I have always heard that u need a push style clutch.......
