PA R1 strut bar on the rear

I always wanted to try this. It was an easy modification. I used some 2 and 3 inch turbo compressor housing straps I had laying around and made it work. The front strut bar is shorter that the rear bar.

Just figured I would share the picks.

Why??????????????

If I recall correctly, the OEM rear bar is stiffer than the R1 strut bar. I don't see the point of doing this.

It actually looks good but probably isn't as functional..

It's an appearance preference and will do the job.

I do not track the car, just street driving. It does not seem to affect handling.

And I thought I'd seen it all

Looks pretty good actually. Mad props, Zach. What does your bizness partner Nick 'Livestrong' Yanni-poo think of it ?

Nick-*** I think is out of the country right now on vacation so I am peddling parts and cars until he is back.

Actually looks pretty cool! Best way to do it would be to re-engineer the bracket on the strut towers so the mount is out enough for the bar.

I don't think that sub-bracket would be very structurally stiff. But, like you said, on a street driven car you most likely will never notice the difference.

Yanni-poo. Awesome.

I felt less competition while you were gone. Go back.

I'd consider doing this to my dad's FD with a spare freshly repainted R1 bar I have sitting in the garage collecting dust. Probably do something to make it stiffer where the bar meets the mounts, but it looks surprisingly good.

Btw, since you guys are posting in this thread...... I know John is planning to make DGRR this year, what about Nico and Zach?

You said stiffer. There is a metal fab shop in town. I plan to take the bar to him and have him make some solid aluminum mounts to replace the mock up mounts that are on there now.

It may take him awhile as he is very busy. I will get a few made and see what happens with the haters who poked fun at me for my bling.

Should've just bought the Tanabe one if you wanted a red one. It's also not too expensive.

Than Tanabe bar is nice. Unfortunately, like all such bars, it will not work with the shelf thingy.

I'd at least take it to a welder and have those extension tabs welded on to the tower caps, and re-spray them black. That might return some of the structural integrity by removing a bolted joint.

It does look nice as far as aesthetics, but with two pivot points on each side there is minimal bracing. the stiffness of the bar is now directly related to how tight your bolts are. It's almost no different than driving without a rear strut tower bar.

Those brackets were just for mockup. My intent was/is to get solid aluminum pieces made. Just have not gotten around to it.
